I saw on here that some one tried loading 9mm luger with 38/357 dies. Is this feasible or is it a waste of time?

Key word there is probably "tried".......

The 9mm is a tapered case.

Thanks Larry. I've really never paid much attention to the 9mm luger before. I just now looked up the specs before I read your post and discovered that for my self. I should have checked before I wrote the thread. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

45-70 . . . not a dumb question at all IMHO. I've often wondered about certain cartridges that I don't reload but might have an interest in possibly adding. And . . . often times some dies can be substituted and will work - 38/357 and 9mm is just one of them that won't. On the other hand . . . I load 38 Colt Short and Long . . and on those, a 9mm seating die and crimp die can be utilized. Juar can't use the 38/357 on 9mm. While I like a roll crimp on 38s . . . on the 38 Colt Short and Long I do use a 9mm crimp die to put a mild crimp on a cast boolit and it works just fine.

Like I used to tell my kids when I taught shop . . . "the only dumb question is the one you don't ask".

Since I'm a tool "nut" and enjoy researching and buying tools (dies), I've never given this much thought. I even have dies for ..44 Special and dies for .44 Magnum...

I use some of the 38/357 dies for some steps in reloading the 9mm case.
since I use a 358 diameter cast boolit in my 9m's it makes sense to use the tools made for getting them in the case.

I wouldn't. Handgun rounds, especially those taper crimped rely on case tension. I would want to open the case up anymore then I had too.

You could probably cobble together some 9mm ammo with a 38 die, but it might not chamber. I have one 9mm Luger that gobbles up anything I can fit in the magazine, and a different one with a tight chamber that insists on factory spec or smaller ammo.

38/357 can be done in 9mm but not the other way. The 38/357 steel dies cut the head on the 9mm .
