I did look at that page and saw what is available before I started the thread. Since when is .30-06 brass a limited production item? Both Winchester and Remington!

I found several once fired 06's and .270's at the range last trip. Somebody came in after we did and sighted in their deer rifles. I cleaned up after them.

I imagine that brass cases are like any other item, they are produced in runs or lots. Set up the machine, make a whole bunch, then set it up for another caliber. When other calibers have an unusually high demand (223 due to BATFE trying to ban the 62gr penetrator, or even 22lr) the equipment, raw materials, and/or the people are diverted and we have to live on the surplus until the next production run.

The demand for 22and 223 is still crazy, so we may be in for some really lean times as far as brass is concerned. Be glad you don't need 300 Savage, 32 Special, or something really odd. It will be a long, long time before they get around to those.

Yea going to say they make brass in runs, some just is sold faster than others. And one would imagine if winchester brand is given a choice of selling a bag of 50 cases for $25. A loaded box of 20 for the same price, they will pick the one with a higher profit. Guarantee way more people are looking for loaded 30-06 than are looking for brass.

I don't know.....I do a lot of conversions. I do some of the strange stuff and they aren't flying out the door. Just click the link in my signature and see, or just read my signature.

hornady has been putting out 300 savage and 32 Winchester recently.
heck I just picked up some of each and some 275 rigby from them.

80 cents a case is a bit high but it's available.
I think win and rem are on their way out of the reloading business, when is the last time you seen bullets from either company?
and if you figure in their ammo prices versus their component prices you don't save near as much as you used to.
I'm gonna predict that in the future we will be using more foreign brass and components.

I cant wait for the Chinese components to hit the shelves.

Good motivation for an immediate start to accumulating a lifetime supply of brass for you and for your children.

I need to start looking for '06 brass.

My point exactly. I was on a notification about a month back for the Winchester brass but was working. By the time I saw the note in my e-mail that afternoon it was sold out. I had been waiting at least 6 months, maybe a little more.

I'm still waiting for .338 brass.

Seems to be the new reality, only way to cope is be ready to purchase as much as you need when it becomes available.

Yep! That's the answer. Evil capitalism.

What I don't understand why there could be reviews at both ends of the quality scale, some were totally bad and some just wonderful!

Just seems odd that there is still a shortage of "normal" components...

what was getting me was when pistol powders were in short/non existent supply rifle powders were not on the shelves either.
but I would find the occasional jug of red-dot or green-dot and now I don't seem to be able to find any when everybody else is talking about things loosening up.

I just don't know anymore.
everything seems to come and go quickly and even chain stores seem to have different stuff on the shelves from store to store 50 miles apart.

I don't know where we are headed when -06 brass becomes an occasional run... I've been waiting 4 years for Winchester to make their "Seasonal Run" on 218 Bee brass. Luckily I found someone who doesn't have their Bee anymore with several hundred new in the bag to keep me going.

Good thing I'm a brass packrat - If I see it lying on the range, I pick it up whether I need it or not...

Ya, I pick up everything. It's worth at last scrap rate, but every case I pick up is like picking up a nickle...

I have hundreds of '06 brass that I've picked up over the years, never have owned that caliber. They don't spoil.

I used to feel almost guilty about paying $5 /100 for all that .270 Winchester Win 1x that followed me home about 3 yrs ago now I'm feeling pretty good about it . There's not even a twinge of guilt about taking my Ms and a buddy to that store that is still rationing primers and buying 3 rations . What does bother me is why there is so much more demand than supply . I know stores, smaller non-chain but we'll beyond Moes bait shack , that had 3-6 months of advance stock of ammo and components. Ya know based on growth and 20-30 yrs of business books . Today that shop stocks gaps and single boxes along with the special packages hauled in to have shelf stock . I went 2 yr and never saw a small pistol primer ,the minute I had a rifle that needed small rifle primers those were gone and replaced with small pistol both std and mag now there's no #41s or large pistol standard. What are ya gonna do but pay and get what you need when you can get it .

Making it short supply ups the demand and profit for the retailer.

Try Graf's

Several months ago I listed .270 brass for sale on the S&S forum and no one showed any interest. If I recall correctly, much of it was unfired.

Well I'm glad I bought a 1911 instead of a garand! I'm confused as to how the brass is in low supply, who is buying all of it?

Pretty sure ben bernanke bought a metal business and they were artificially inflating the price of metal. Story was they had to sell or move the metal every month so to get around it they would move metal from different business to others to inflate price by claiming there was a shortage. Might be related might not

It's hunting season, just hang at a range. Picked up 40 30-06 cases and the boxes they came in. Once fired is fine with me.

I've scored nearly 100 '06 cases this week at the range. As far as new, you just have to look around. Powder Valley is showing backorder, Bruno's is showing in stock, with a good price! Lapua,Norma and Nosler are available most places.

I wonder if their web guy just clicked the wrong button?

i bought 1000 30-06 and 1000 .270 from USA brass a couple of years ago when they put them on sale. I haven't regretted that investment at all.

I bought 1000 cases of "once fired" 30-06 at Diamond K Brass (one the internet). They all look good-- although I haven't checked them all out yet-- so maybe that's an option. 800 were Remington cases.
