Here is the liver from the buck I got with my new 45 Super Marlin 1894.152618

He was 20 yards away quartering towards me. 265 grain NOE cup point @1300 fps. Bullet clipped a lung and centered on the liver and had complete pass through. Deer went down at 40 yards.

To say I am pleased with its performance is an understatement! This bullet will shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards when I do my part and I know for certain this bullet will still perform at that range

Good morning
Well Congratulations ! Another corn cruncher on the table !
I always like to compare old BP cartriges to modern ones to get an idea what we are slinging about today. That 45 Marlin is doing what the old BP 45-60 Winchester could chug out. Should be a very ample cartridge.
Going to have to research a 45 Super... sounds like a 454 in other ways.

Here is a picture of the gun. It was done by Ranger Point Precision.

And this is a picture of the round. It should be around 24000 psi

I love this thread! I've always wanted to try a deer or hog with my .45 I figure with the right WFN cast boolit load it should punch right thru. Congrats on your deer!!

Nice. Great concept. For a companion, if you do a 460 Rowland conversion on a .45 ACP you can use that same round in a side arm.

Already running them in my XDM. In my pistol they are running at 1050 fps. That was always my goal to have companion guns. Believe it or not they pistol will take WAY more pressure than the rifle. Don't ask

Greetings
Well did some study and that is a 45 Super ACP.
I also like the "companion lever rifle" idea. One ammo for the walk around the AO.

I'd never heard of a levergun in .45acp before. I looked up Ranger Point Precision, and wow, that looks awesome. Mind if I ask what it set you back?

This is the reason I so enjoy my T/C Contender in 45 ACP.

That was the first conversion he did. Mine was $2400 including the rifle I didn't have. But he did quite a bit extra to it. Lightened it. Bedded it. Short stroked it. Gun Koted it. Skinner Express sights on it. New recoil pad. Shortened it. Did an action job to it. He has his prices on his website. He is also doing 357 sig, 10mm, and 40 S&W. Outstanding smith!

Have you done any hunting with it yet. What kind of result were you getting if so.

I do all my hunting of deer with a muzzleloader since I have that tag but I use the T/C 45 ACP as a backup when grouse hunting and mushrooming in our local bear country (admittedly our local black bears are pretty small with few over 250#). Having done the terminal ballistics test with it at 30 yards, the results were impressive but I would not shoot over 40 yards on our bear. It would most certainly be adequate for our local black tail deer out to 80 yards given my many experiences (and more than a dozen deer) with 45 cal muzzleloader's 130 gr. patched round ball. The MV from my 45 ACP in the Contender is about 1170 and I am using the Lee 200 gr RF (drops at 213 gr) and my accuracy is minute of tin can at 60 yards (I am not very good).

Do you mind sharing your load?

I shoot 45 Super in my G21sf with a Lonewolf 6", 4-port barrel. I like the 265 WFNGC from 1033 - 1100 fps with Blue Dot and standard large pistol primers. 9.3 BD yields the 1033 fps.

Good job! How many rounds will that hold in the tube? I was playing in light 45super territory with my Blackhawk, but I couldn't get the accuracy from the Lee 200rf at those speeds, so I settled on a lighter load for that boolit.

With a 16.75" barrel it holds 11+1 @1.24". At 1.21" it holds 12+1.

I have had a similar experience with the Lee RF boolits at higher velocities. In my 9mm Luger T/C carbine, I had a lot of frustrations trying to push that 125 gr. RF boolit accurately above 1350 fps but when I brought the MV back down to around 1200 fps, they shoot great. I will bet the 45 cal Lee 200 gr RF is similar so I would start at an MV of 1100 and work up from there. For a hunting boolit, I think they punch above their weight so extra velocity isn't needed.

quilbilly, that's about the same speed where Lee's 125rf boolit starts to open up the groups in my 38 super, I have to keep it around 1200fps too.
