Just picked up some molds from an estate, one has me sort of confused as to its use. It's a 41027 with a hollow base it appears to be a full Wadcutter with a hollow base, the old Lyman book makes no mention of a hollow base for that bullet and unless its for some old Black Powder round I can see no use for it.

It's shown in the second Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. Looks like a target bullet for the .41 Magnum. Available in two weights: 217 and 224 grains.

Why the hollow base for a 41mag?

I had a 41027. It cast about .416 and I sized it .411. Did not shoot as well as other cast bullets in my S&W 58 so I sold it. With a 5 digit number it would have been designed long before the 41 Magnum was available. I have no idea what it was originally designed for.

Thanks, those were my thoughts. Maybe I will start digging through old books now that the weather is getting bad.

It is around in the older Lyman manuals. It is indeed a hollow base full wadcutter that works well in the 41 Mag. I had one for a while and also used it for short range work in the 405 WCF, as mine casted at .413. It needed a special holder made from some wire to keep the HB plug up to temperature with a propane torch to get proper fillout and that is what I did/used. It shot accurately in my S&W M57. LLS
