I went out today to try out some cast bullet loads in my No4 MK1* T. I ordered the 245 gr 300 Blackout bullet (look like NOE 311 247 gr bullet) from Missouri Bullet Co un-sized with their Hi-Tec coating. These are 20 BHN, 0.312" and weigh 238 gr. I wanted to stay sub-sonic so loaded up some rounds with Bullseye (3-6 gr) and Trail Boss (9-10 gr). I shot the following results from prone at 25 yds with the factory peep sights except for the 10 gr load which was shot by Garrett.
Rem case Neck-sized
Win LR primer
OAL 3.09"
Temp 62* F
6 gr Bullseye - Avg 897 fps, SD 6, 5 shots 1.17"
5 gr Bullseye - Avg 795 fps, SD 5, 5 shots 2.07"
4 gr Bullseye - Avg 684 fps, SD 15, 5 shots 1.17"
3 gr Bullseye - Avg 558 fps, SD 12, 5 shots 1.47"
9 gr Trail Boss - Avg 969 fps, SD 4, 4 shots 0.83" (3 in 0.060")
10 gr Trail Boss - Avg 1023 fps, SD 6, 4 shots 0.61" (3 in 0.03", 0.342 outside to outside) :bigsmyl2:
I only had enough brass ready to load 4 each of the Trail Boss loads.
I plan on testing the 10 gr load at longer range to see just how well it can really do. I also plan to do more testing with loads below 3 gr of Bullseye to see just how quiet of a load I can get. ALL of the above loads were quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection (sounded like a firecracker).
