Is anyone forming 17 Remington Fireball Brass from 223 rem. brass?

I made 20 vartarg from 223 brass so another pass through after the 20 cal would have 17 so depending on the need to turn necks if you have a chamber that needs it there should be no problem

I make 17-222 from 222 brass in one pass. No problems.

Was thinking of using a 221 trim die, then running it thru a 17 fireball FL sizer die. Do you think this will work?

When I make 221 brass I run the cases through 2 form dies first that knock the shoulder down some. I tried to do those years ago just running them into my die but no dice. There's a lot of pressure trying to form those in 1 forming operation, and I lost a lot of cases trying. Annealing them before forming was a big mistake which resulted in collapsing the case, so now annealing is the last thing I do.

And that's why folks just order 221 brass from me. Almost all the works been done, forming, reaming, trimming, annealing and just squeeze the neck down to 17cal when they get them.

When I first got my Mach1V 30 some years ago I made all my cases from Rem, Win, or LC brass 223 brass. Needing my first piece of brass I called Skip Otto and told him what I wanted and he made my dies for me. They work slick, hardest part was cutting the cases off after I had them squeezed down to 17 cal. Once I mastered turning necks that part wasn't bad just took a little time. When you guys by brass from GRUMPA your getting a bargain because I know how much labor he has in them. My Mach 1V and a few 221 & 223 loads were hard on primer pockets and the lightly swaged LC brass held up to hot loads very well. You can pick up 223 brass by the bucket full at the range for free. When I pick them up I sort by head stamp, the spot I picked them up at the range and the day, I always have my pockets bulged out with plastic bags to pickup in. I keep them bagged in lots with notes. I might keep them in 5 gal buckets with lids but they are bagged and never mixed. Yup! I love anything made from 223 parent brass and when you master case reforming the big companies do not have you by the gonads.
