Picked up a 100 yo Remington as a project Want to convert it to .32-20. Have a gunsmith. What boolit do you recommend? Any help appreciated

I can't help, because (IMO) the miniature #4 action isn't a good candidate for a .32-20 - doubly/especially if it's a takedown version.

I would recommend a simple conversion to the commercially-available (brass and/or loaded ammo) .32 Short Colt CF - which conversion consists of drilling a centrally-located FP hole in the breechblock, then filing the old RF firing pin tip off the FP body & installing a new CF firing pin in the face of the old FP body.

E-Z-Peazy (I've personally done three such conversions, using the shank of the 1/16" drill used to drill the CF firing pin hole, as the new FP)).

I would suggest giving Frank DeHass's (Mister Single Shot) suggestions for the various RB's suitability for whatever cartridges a read, before you commit to a course of action - since his experimentation has shown that the #4 action is not strong enough for conversion to any larger cartridge.

Sorry that's not a 32-20 action it's 32 rimfire only unless you want gun PARTS. The 32-20 is way too much pressure for the action.

My #4 doesn't even like the 22lr Stingers. Only tried one in it and shoot only standard velocity loads now. A 32 S&W loaded light MIGHT work but others have more experience with this than me.

Sorry,f at fingers

I was planning on using Black Powder only. Does that change anything or is ot still the .32 Colt Short CF?

IMHO, it does nothing - especially, at some future time, the possibility is there, that some innocent could be injured by firing full-power loads in the re-chambered #4.

The original 32 rim fire had 9 grains of BP and 80 grain bullet. The 32 S&W short is very close to the same power. The 32-20 is a little to much for the #4.

I have #4 that I converted to centerfire. I shoot 32 long colt, which matches the chamber length. I use black powder or light smokeless loads. It's a very accurate little rifle. Here is a 50 yard target using my favorite smokeless load.

.22 WMR is not even recommend for the No. 4 action.

Again, many thanks to you all. I will go with the Colt to be safe
