My 9 year old son with his first 2 deer. Not cast bullet kills, but he shot a small Folgers can full of cast bullets practising before season.

Great stuff! Congratulations to the young man.

I started my younger son with a .308 and used Hogdon's youth load data, 125 grain jacketed bullet and 37 grains of 4895 if I recall right. It is accurate and kills deer as well as anything at realistic ranges. I think it's a better choice than a .22 centerfire or .243 for a youth gun.

My oldest (who will be 8 in December) Grandson and I went out yesterday (and am about ready to get him to go today) we saw (what looked like a 6 pointer run across the highway in front of us and then 3 does were right on the side of the county road looking at us right before we got to my friends property. Didn't see another thing (not even a dang squirrel :) ) but we had a good time.

I forgot to add my congratulations. He did Great! I believe he's going to be a hunter for a long time.

Looks like he would make a good member in any hunting camp.

Good shooting to that young man , a 308 is a great gun to start with , I got mine when I was 13 and 32 years later it is still my number 1 deer gun . I had my daughter shooting it last year when she was 12 ( 150 lee's over Unique ) . Again great job and that will be the first 2 of many.

Congratulations. Great to see a young man with 'em stacked up like that. My 13 yr old got his first this year, nothing like it.
