Has any one tried the Lee 105 SWC in the P89 Ruger? I have a lot of these cast up and thought it would be a good plinking boolit.

Ah, the venerable P89. My first handgun. I put thousands of rounds through it and it was 100% reliable. Built like a brick and could always use it as a club if out of ammo.

I say load some up and try it out.

That was the plan but was just wondering if anyone had tried it.

At 32 ounces it is not a light gun, but for an all metal gun it is on the light side of the curve. The plastic Glock 17 weighs 25 ounces I have four P89s that I love and yes, they are 100% reliable. I have not shot a 105 grain SWC out of mine, but I have yet to find a bullet that will not feed reliably in my P89s. So why not?

Thanks jmort. I have read that on several other sites. I just got the gun today. It is actually for my son but I will be loading for it. My alloy is ww and tin and the actual weight that this 6 cavity mold drops is 110 gr plus or minus 1 gr.

I've used them in a Walther P-38, a Taurus PT 92 and a Springfield XDM , sized .357 and seated so the crimp groove is covered, you want the case mouth just a hair below the top edge of the top band , where the truncated cone/semi wadcutter nose starts . Lee calls it a SWC but to me its a truncated cone. If too much of the .357 dia. lead boolit sticks out it can hang up in a gun with a tight chamber, so it needs to be rather deep seated .
After getting the seating depth and powder charge worked out it shot like a champ in all of them. Light recoil, shoots to point of aim in P-38 and saves on lead. I like them in 9mm.

Thanks Gary. I will keep that in mind about the seating depth.

I ran that bullet through a beretta 92 with good effect. Sized .358", I believe my OAL was 1.000". They look funny loaded that short but they shot fine. If I'm remembering right it failed the plunk when loaded out much longer.

I have a P89DC that sits in the safe. It's a bit obsolete. I cast a bunch of really soft LEE 356-125. It leaded my M&P like crazy. I figured I'd run them through the P89. They didn't leave any leading. I couldn't believe it. Pretty robust old girl.

You're right on that count. I was afraid to seat them too deep , started out seating them at the crimp groove, Too far out , kept seating them deeper and shooting untill I wound up right at the top edge of the boolit with that little nose poking out....much to my surprise , no problems in feeding . But sure looks funny !

Not a P-89 but I ran 100's of them through a Ruger P-95 and they shot great. As I recall I motivated them with both Bullseye and Unique.
