Looking for load for .311 160grn for both 7.62x54R and .303 British

Looking for loads for .311 160gtn gas checked bullet for both .303 British and 7.62x54R. Preferably using IMR4064 or IMR4198 or Unique? Thanks!

For the 7.62x54R I have loaded Unique up to 15.0 gr so far with the Lee 155 GC .311 and very accurate.
Also have loaded 25.5 gr of IMR 4227 with the same bullet, and 26.0 gr of the 2400 back when I still had some.
I also used the same loads with all powders with the Lee 160 Gr GC TL design

24.0 grs. IMR 4198 should do what you want. It sure does for me. Neck size and factory crimp. Or PP and hand seat in reprimed fired case. Play with it!

Probably need to be more specific as to what you want to do with it. I have loads on both ends of the spectrum. A 200gr cast subsonic, 8.2gr of S1000, use that as I have alot of it. Then full power 4198 load with a lino bullet, straight out of the lyman book. With the short barrel on my mosin, I get the same velocity w the full power cast as I do with a jacketed bullet. Cut it back to 17 in you lose velocity. I use 4198 for 174gr match, regular powders most of it just ends up as muzzle blast. The faster burning powder gets same velocity w way less muzzle blast. 2100fps w the 174gr. Not much different than a 30/30.

First question I have is did you slug the bores of the guns? I have found that .311" is usually too small for the 2 guns you have.

13 grains of Red Dot. 15.0 grains of unique. 23.0 grains of 4198. 28-30.0 grains of 4064.
Any of these should group well. For target purposes, anyway.

For hunting, 35 - 38 grains of 4064.

For funsies, people have been plinking with 10 grains of Unique since before WWI. it is a time tested load.

25 grns of 3031 with Lee 312-155 (gas checked thru .314 sizer) works in my Enfield but not so in my Mosins (haven't spent any time sorting those out yet)

I would be targeting shooting with these, 100 yard range. Looking for starting points that I can use to tune to the firearms. Prefer 4064 or Unique loads as I always have some around or easily accessible.

Agree. I have an Enfield 303 that slugs out at .318" and my MN 7.62x54 that slugs out to 3.14"...

Yes I have several mosins and enfields some have tighter bores then the others.

For that .318" Enfield, get the Lee .321" 170grn, size to 321".

I have fired literally thousands of rounds out of Mosins and other milsurps with "The Load" (13gr of Red Dot). Some perform ok, most perform well, some perform exceptionally well. Accuracy does drop off to about 5" at 100 yards out of my M39 (the best performer). It all depends on what you want to do with it. With an RD TLC311-165RF I would not hesitate to shoot deer under 75 yards with the 13gr of Red Dot load. With Finn M28's you'll want to shoot a heavier bullet. Out of my SIG barrled M28 (943/1000 first shipment August of 1928 to civil guard, sisa soumi district) I can hit the target at 100 yards with the RD TLC311-165RF, but with a 180gr. or heavier boolit it will shoot cloverleafs at 50 yards and do very well at 100 yards. No doubt not a fault of the bullet but the throat and rifling of the Finn. YMMV and as with anything, you will just have to try it and experiment.
