i own a ruger super redhawk in 44 mag and it goes from the bore .429". the six chamberings are .433", .434", .434', .433", .434" and .434". i've got a couple of hundered .432" boolits(240gr swc bhn15) that i would like to load up. is .003" too much? or should i put them in the melt pile?

i know that my tc encore in 444 marlin(.429") does great with .430" boolits, and since i am a newbie, people have stated .001" or .002" is what is best. what about .003"?:-?:confused:

thanks...

You could always size them smaller, but if it were me I would load them and see how they shot before I made any big decisions.

As always with new components, start low and work up. Are you worried that it's going to be too big and cause an overpressure?

Should be fine. Most guys here size .002-.003 over bore anyway, and the revolver specialist usually size to the cylinder throat.

i was worried it(.003") may cause an overpressure cause of its size, but know i know.
i'm going to use it with trail boss(don't crush it) at about 80-90% of the case. since i am left handed(had a stroke, no right hand) and use a bog pod, i don't forsee any problems out to 50 yards. i want to try it next year for deer. i plan on using trail boss because my old handload, 200gr xtp with win 296(27.0gr), hurts my forearm after 6 or 7 shots. tb lets me use ruger srh till "the cows come home":bigsmyl2:.

Bullets should be sized to fit the CYLINDER THROATS!!!
NOT THE BARREL!!!!! .432-.433 is correct for most.

i'm kinda new at cast boolits, jacketed i've got 20+ years. cast i'm still learning.

Yep, you are fine. Ideal accuracy would come from having Doug ream all cylinders to match the largest then sizing the boolits .0005-.001 under. Or just make sure a boolit will pass through the throat with lite thumb pressure.

Sounds like your cylinders are all the same within a range of .002. That's better than a lot of cylinders. Shoot them and see how it all goes. Especially with that load you won't be worrying about pressures. The SRH is a very strong gun anyway.

The stated range is 0.001." Try Outpost's advice.

Stop for a second. The difference between your throats is only .0005" on a side. How many boolits do you get that good?
I still question groove since most Rugers run .430". Maybe a little restriction at the threads?
.432" is great. To touch those throats would be a sin. You are in happy town.
I will crinkle a lot of shorts when I say "You do NOT have to fit to throats." Just a tad over groove is all you need.
Hammer, hammer, I am a nail. Nobody can hit the head, just their thumb.
