Thinking of using these in my H&R 45-70 IF they shoot good....
I loaded 3 tonight just to hear the gun go boom w 40gr Varget and 1 with 43 gr of Varget. Recoil was very light. No lead in barrel.
Is the tip of this bullet flat enough?
Hunting Shack Munitions .459. 405 grain. 15 Brinell

It ought to work for most anything! Let us know what accuracy you get.

Thanks for the reply. Hoe to get to the range later this week. I'm new to cast boolits and these were available local. 250 for 60.00
They 40 gr loads come out to about 50 cents each

Welcome, and happy shooting. Those should work nicely on most any game at moderate velocity (1400-1800 ish) . Remember you are now throwing bowling balls instead of hyper velocity jacketed baseball's and have fun.

I'd try the 1300 fps area before I went too far.
but even at that speed it's more than the 454 casull's muzzle energy.

Pard, you're talking about a .45-70. If you're hunting anything in North America, it will work.

That seems a bit pricey to me, although I admit it's been a decade since I *bought* any cast lead bullets. If you like how these perform, I suggest you buy a mould and get to cookin' your own!

Just make sure that you don't make the same mistake I made. Know your gun and how it shoots at different ranges. I missed an elk at approx. 220 yds due to not having shot my rifle at longer ranges, and learning the drop. Enjoy, and welcome to the addiction.

If it doesn't work, it won't be the bullets fault.

152147152148 Small group at 50 yards. Larger group is at 100 yards. This is a little handi rifle with a 4x32 BSA scope. Had to shoot from the prone, into the sun. The local public range was full of gunshop commandos with sks, and hipoints. 43 grains of Varget
