My son started with a roofing company and I need to know what to tell him to look out for so he can save the scrap for me. Can some of you please post some pics of whatever comes off of roofs that I could use?

Usually lead used in roofing is sheet form. Flashing, vent boots, that sort of thing. It is very soft, pure or close to it. Easy to identify.

have him talk to the plumbers on some of the bigger restorations.
they can get shower pans and stuff he has no access to and would most likely leave them sitting around where he could find them at the end of the day.

Remind him not to forget about good old 50/50 solder. It's a great source of tin for sweetening lead as well.

Roofers often use solder on flashing during jobs.

I've seen guys throw out a piece of solder simply because it got too short, or even forgotton and left laying around a job after clean up.

I will happily keep and collect all those short or cast off lead & tin pieces. It's easy not to care when YOU aren't the one paying for the price of Lead/Tin.
