NOE had this mold on sale not long ago and I jumped off the MP group buy as I was getting tired of waiting and wanted to try this monster bullet out.

Data is limited but it is out there however most of the data and write ups say nothing of what crimp groove is used? For those loading it how are you loading it for revolvers etc?

Some pictures show the .357 loading seated to the top crimp groove, I just loaded a test batch and it looks like "a snake ate a pig" as I've heard it described elsewhere. When tried in my 77 it will not chamber, obvious rub spots.

Obviously it must be crimped on the lower groove for .38 but I was hoping the .357 loads would crimp on the top as that is just under max length that will fit in my .357 bolt action.

I'll try some starline brass later, I had R-P on hand as its range pickup and I try to keep the good stuff (starline) in reserve.

Also to those who may be curious I loaded the following to test today

.38 SPL 3.2gr Unique- seated on lower groove
.357 Magnum- 8gr 2400 seated on lower groove

Also the NOE mold with the large HP pin installed, with bullet sized and lubed weighs ~217gr , the "cup" pin installed it weighs ~227gr which means the solid will be a bit more. I did not throw any solids yet but plan on doing so if I get any casting done today.

Did you read this article too? He does mention that not all rounds will chamber in .357 brass. I'm not sure how you'd defeat that.

I've got a Lyman 358627 and a Lee 358627 from when we were doing Lee group buys here. From either the 357 mag or the Max l could never really get the accuracy I wanted out of Contender barrels. We did a Glenn Larson group buy for the 180 grain that simply outperforms it.

Just got back from the range, the 3.2gr of unique out of my carbine and the 5" GP100 were a hoot. very little recoil and though out of the carbine they were dead on at 25 yards at 50 yards they were almost 9" high, big long bullet going slow gives the muzzle plenty of time to rise that much I guess.

I'll dig out some brass and see what I come up with, Would really like to have a .357 level load that works in revolver for this bullet.

Have a update on this...I finally got around to playing with this bullet again in .357 mag

The R-P, FED, WIN and other brass I've tried were mostly too thick to allow this bullet to be crimped on the top groove to function in the 77-357 rotary mags. I finally got around to loading some up in STARLINE brass....and they work like a charm. My 77 will hold onto them a bit once chambered though I didn't have any that stuck any harder than a strong bolt throw wouldn't pluck free.

Interesting to note that I was getting some wide groups with this at 50 yards out of my 77 but the GP100 shot it pretty well at 15 yards. I was surprised that the 38 special load of 2.8gr of bullseye gave up only 100 fps of velocity to the 357 load of 8gr of 2400. 725fps and 825fps respectively.

Long story short try Starline brass if you want to run this bullet in 357 magnum and seat on the top groove....its a hoot out of the wheel gun as well.
