Done the searches. Looked at the first 22pages in this forum yesterday.

Have an NEI 383gr .338 mold. It weighs out at 312gr w/gas check and all lube grooves filled using
straight wheelweight alloy.

Have fired a few rounds using data from Lyman #3 and a .340wby mag. Now want to shoot these in my .338-06AI. Bullet is full diameter out to the RN edge. Needs to seat deeper than the crimp groove to avoid pressure dangers. Maybe I need to throat my barrel a bit longer?

I am sure could work with Unique and 2400, but looking for an IMR type powder w/higher fill. Thinking of this as a real strong game getting bullet. Also have the Lee 225gr mold for small game and plinking.

Any starting recommendations appreciated!

Thanks!

48.0gr IMR 4064, 4350 or 4831 has worked, along with 50.0gr W760 or H414 in my 35 Whelen.

See my latest project using IMR4831...

Try the boolit on the left in the pic. It is the Accurate 32-220B ordered as a .340 diameter or, 34-250B.

You might want to try IMR 4320 in that Ackley chamber. It always worked well for me. Start at 50 grs.

I was thinking about buying a 300+ gr bullet for my 35 Whelen.
I have the 280-360009 NOE and want to get one they make in 280 gr that is a Spire point.
I like Heavy bullets and am starting to work up loads with IMR 4350
I only bought the 280 gr, because I couldn't find any bullet mold that was heavier at the time.

We use this bullet in a standard 338/06 and an Ackley version. Very accurate in both

Thanks for the reply, Frank505. If you're loading the NEI 283 .338, which powders do you like and what starting weight can recommend, and do you seat the boolit on the front crimp groove? My rifle has an AI'ed chamber.

Yes, we are loading the nei#283. Weighs about 300. We fill the case with wc860 or 872. Velocity's are o in the upper teens with outstanding accuracy. In my rifle this load shoots an inch right of the 275 grain speer softs. Very usable practice or hunting load.
