In tow will be my 1895 GBL and a whole arsenal of cast lead goodness. The main ticket items, though, are some Lee 457-340 (Actual wt is 353gr) that I cast from a water dropped COWW/Pb blend, sized at .460 and lubed with Recluse 45-45-10. I have charge weights of IMR 3031 going from 44gr, which is a known performer for me, up to 52gr. Last time I was out, I started to see some leading at 46gr...this time I'm using plain base gas checks to see if I can crank that load up some more. Either way, I'm quite happy with the performance of that boolit at 44gr (1475 est velocity).

I'll post up some pictures and details after the fun.

Sounds great. I'm looking forward to hearing about it.

Well, 40rds down range and that 44gr load is still a proven performer. Shooting at 50yds with open sights, all rounds were inside of a group about the size of my fist...except a couple fliers. As for the Recluse 45-45-10 lube...I'm sold. I am absolutely sold. I saw ZERO leading from 44gr up to 52gr of IMR 3031, with a nice line star on the muzzle. That translates to a velocity spread of around 1450 up to around 1900 or so.

Accuracy- again, 44gr is the performer here. Things started to open up at 46, just like last time. The only difference is no leading. Recoil got pretty fierce up in the 50's and there was no added accuracy to justify the sore shoulder. So- a solid "go to load" for me is as follows:

RP brass
Lee 457-340, 50/50 blend of COWW and Pb water dropped
sized ag .460, lubed with Recluse 45-45-10
IMR 3031 @ 44gr
COAL 2.545, decent crimp

I'll edit this later with a picture that I took of 10rds on paper.

As promised...

That was 10 shots. I've noticed that this gun seems to shoot a little better after a couple fouling shots. Anyway, iron sights at 50yds. I'm happy with that.

that will make a nice hog tamer when you get down to the lone star state.

Yep....I'm thinking that load would punch right through both shoulders of a good size pig and just keep on truckin' along. I'm excited for pulled pork from a pig that I shoot. :bigsmyl2: :lovebooli

As for the Recluse 45-45-10 lube...I'm sold. I am absolutely sold.

Have you tried BLL yet? I just made up a batch myself the other day. WAY easier that making 45-45-10
No cooking involved. I'm hearing LOTS of good things about it. Everyone says this stuff is way superior to 45-45-10
You might look into it.

I'll look into that when I get everything settled and whatnot. I have my entire loading bench tore down and packed up, and enough Recluse lubed boolits to last for a while. I have been reading about that BLL a bit though, and like what I've read. Of course, I made up a batch of recluse about 2 days before hearing about BLL. Lol...

It seems a lot of people are using the BLL IN ADDITION TO a convention groove lube. I don't really want to mess with two lubes, so I've been waiting to see what people experience with BLL only.

I have read a lot of people using it as a stand alone lube with great results, some with velocities as high as 2200fps!

My plan for the lube was wadcutter and 45acp loads. I would also try it as a secondary lube on top of my 2500 lubed 45-70 boolits.

I've used Javelina lube for years, but I understand it's not being made anymore however I think Lyman or someone offers an allox lube that is similar? It's good stuff.

That's nice looking. One of these days I'd like to try the larger loop lever.
IN Winter wearing gloves my std loop lever gets a bit crouded.

I probably don't use the large loop for the intended purpose, but I sure like the look of it. I'm pretty sure you can order the large loop online and swap them out, should you really want to go that route.

I probably could maybe this summer, we've got till Sunday for Elk & I'm not changing anything till after the season. I have wondered about it though.
Thanks.
