Hey everyone!
So, a year or two ago I was doing some testing with cast powder coated boolits in my ar15. I found an Ideal 225462 57gr mould that cycled the action just fine, but because I didnt have gas checks and the PC had a bit of flare at the base they werent very accurate. About 4" at 100yds. I wish I could find a 225036 Ideal mold. I see it on the ol buffalo chart but have never seen one in the wild.
But, the question I have is, is this 6 cavity lee mold new? When I was searching, the only lee mold I could find was the Bator, which absolutely sucked in my ar. Im wondering if I should try out this 225 RF lee mold since its cheap and can toss out 6 at a time, which is awesome. I could sell off my Ideal mold if this one works since its only a 2 cavity.
Has anyone else tried this Lee mold in an ar? Or should I be the one to do it. With the success I had with powder coated 223 boolits so far, Im really looking for something with good accuracy now that I know I can get them to cycle and also, actually, shoot at about the same as jacketed velocity. My best groups were with 24gr of win 748. My normal jacketed 55gr load with that is 26.5gr.
So, let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,
Jamie

it's a semi-close copy of the rcbs mold and has been around for about a year now.
I use the rcbs mold in my AR rifles.

Well, I totally didnt realize it was a copy of the rcbs mold. I originally wanted that one when I started my testing but didnt want to spend the money. I just ordered the 6cav lee mold. We shall see how she fares.

What's your ar's twist rate?

I have 2 in 1-9 and one in 1-8.
the 1-8 is the most accurate of the three.
it shoots both the rcbs boolit and the HM-2 boolit under an inch at @ 2800 fps.
the 1-9's are standard AR rifles and hang in the 1-1/2' to 2" area depending on the sights used.

Mine is a 1-7 twist, PSA FN barrel. 16". Im thinking of getting a 20" barrel for it though, and a freefloat handguard, because right now I have an A2 front sight post and magpul carbine handguards, so its not exactly set up for long range accuracy. Also, my damn weaver kaspa scopes reticle spun about 45 degrees so its more like an x than a t shape haha. Gotta get that sent in or save up for a nice vortex. I think option two will be the way I go.

In between giggles, I feel for you. Bushnell has a fine 3X9.
