I got home from work just a little while ago and was sitting at the kitchen table eating supper when my youngest son walked inside and said he saw a groundhog on our hill by the road.
I grabbed my No. 2 rem rolling block and stepped off the porch, took aim off handed and first shot went through the throat and exited the side behind the ribs. Dropped in his tracks and rolled down the hill. I threw him into the road and snapped a pic.
7.9 grains of 4227 and a 100 grain fn boolit, 63 yds.
This is the rifle I had to cut 3" off the muzzle and re crown. Seems to shoot ok to me.

Edit;
I checked the load label, it was an 86 grain boolit

I did not, he was covered in ticks. I don't do ticks. Shame as he was just the right size too.

A modern Marlin 25/20 WCF lever action was my favorite small game gun, ever! I shot only cast bullets in mine - Lyman 257420 flat nose gas check bullet. It was a great killer without damaging much meat. Never had to shoot a squirrel twice with it (LOL).

Seriously, properly loaded a 25/20 Single Shot or 25/20 Repeater are great edible small game guns. I LIKE that Remington Rolling block!
