Ordering NEI 405 gr. for 1886 for 45-70 so please help with my options.
After shooting factory 405 grain Remington 45-70 ammo in my Marlin XLR's yesterday and experiencing "no pain" from the ammo, I am going to cast up a few thousand in this weight for my Winchester 1886 rifles I have procured. The velocity stated by Remington is 1330 fps which I felt very comfortable with. REMINGTON LINK (http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/ballistics/comparative_ballistics_results.aspx?data=R4570G)
My big question is after perusing the forums seems like an air cooled cast bullet moving at 1330 fps does not really need to be gas checked. Or am I wrong.
What do you guys think?
Gas Check or no Gas Check?
NEI GC 405 GR. FOR 45-70 LINK (http://www.neihandtools.com/catpages/mold12.jpg) (.458-405-gc #344D RCBS Style)
NEI PB 405 GR. FOR 45-70
TIA,
Duke
