Been wanting one of these for a while, now. Was over on GB the other night and found this one...just what I wanted...compact version. And, y'all don't laugh at the scope as it is staying on the rifle...my old eyes need all of the help they can get setting scopes at 100yds (when trying to get really small groups) and shooting small things like this rifle will be used for. So, I had the Nikon 4.5-14x40mm waiting for the rifle to arrive...might be overkill, but it certainly works.

Anyone have one of these? Anyone willing to throw some loads (cast and jacketed) out for me to try.

Thanks and I am looking forward to delving into this little rifle...and I fully expect this to be a real learning experience.

Ought to be a fun project.

I've found Lil'gun powder to be a great powder with 45 grain spitzer bullets in a Ruger for small varmints and prairie dogs.

This looks like loads of fun. I hope you enjoy it and I would like to hear of your experiences with it. JW

I have a much older Model 158 H&R I got a while back, but haven't done anything with it yet.

I can tell you what has worked for me with my Savage 219 in .22 Hornet. I never inteded to load it as a .22 Hornet, but to make it a substitute for .22 LR. The Lyman 225438, sans gas check and tumble lubed worked great with 1.5-2.0 grains of Bullseye. Quiet and squirrel head accurate at realistic squirrel range. I've since switched to the group buy NOE 45 grain WFN, which I got mine all plain based (this bullet is great, but doesn't feed in my bolt action Hornet). The terminal performance of that bullet on several squirrels and a possum was quite good.

Another good load is the Lee Bator bullet with gas check and 5 grains of 2400.

I've never shot a jacketed bullet in a Hornet yet. I kind of figure my .223s are better for that.

I have had a T/C carbine 21" barrel in 22 Hornet for about 15 years with a 4x scope. Love it as a great "walking around" rifle! I am shooting the Bator 53 gr in it at an MV of 1900 and it groups at about 1.5" at 100 with 10 gr of 4198. It has been very efficient taking down coyotes at 150 yards or less.
My groups with 2400 at the same velocity have been about 2".

I have one and it likes lil gun and the Hdy 35gn vmax. I'd have to dig out the ammo for the charge weight but it's a bit under max--you'll want to work it up in your rifle of course.

Good luck!

A friend of mine's son in law started his kids out with one of those in .22 Hornet, and taught them to shoot for the head. Works like a charm on deer. They had access to a place where the owner doesn't like "high powered rifles, and they started out with .22 LR, finally got him to OK the .22 mag., and then went to a Hornet. The shots there are usually pretty easy for a calm hunter who can shoot, and they've yet to have a deer take a step after impact. It just plain works. A lot more depends on how you use a rifle than what its caliber is.

My Hornet is a 1951 vintage Winchester #43.
Favorite Load: Sierra #1210 45gr / 12.8gr Lilgun / Winchester Brass / Winchester small pistol primer / light crimp w/ Lee FCD.

This will shoot sub-MOA [ 3 shot clovers -5 shot around 5/8"] all day long at 100yards.

H110 and IMR 4227 have work for me. Bullets are 45gr Hornady 10 grains of 4227 best group was .610 at 100 yards off a rest. But don't think for a minute that H110 isn't a good powder. Right now is just hard to find so I had to which to IMR 4227
