I'm looking for a good .30 cal mould to load in my 30-30's. I had a 311290 but didn't like the RN. I want a flat point design. Thanks.

Try the Ideal/lyman 31141 or 311041 depending on vintage of the mold
As far as I know it was made for the 30-30

Lee 170 Fp is about all you should need loaded to 1400-1600 fps. Gas check of course. I yield to the more experienced casters here. They will steer you right for sure! Good shooting to you.

The Ranch Dog 165 is an awesome boolit

I've used the Lee C309-170-F for many years. It is very accurate.

NOE's 311-165FN is the design I use in my .30-30's. It is supposed to be a clone of the Lyman 311041. It is available in both plain base and gas check shank design, perhaps even still, in the same mould. At least mine is a 5 cavity with 4 gc and 1 plain base. I love it and can sure crank out a bunch of fine looking boolits in short order!

I have several NOE molds and really like them. It would be nice to crank out a bunch in short order. As muc as I like cast bullets I really don't enjoy long casting sessions.

+1 for NOE's 311-041 copy, that is a great boolit. I have an old iron Ideal 4 cavity that would only leave my possession for a substantial pile of Jacksons.

I like the Ranch Dog boolit also, or I should say my Marlin likes it.

I'll vote Lyman/Ideal 31141, but I haven't tried NOEs version. Haven't had to with the way my rifles like the old Ideal.

+1 for the RD, in the NOE version, with conventional lube grooves

NOE also has a clone of the discontinued Lyman 311440.

Those two are pretty much tied for accuracy results in the two Winchester 30-30s we have here. I suspect they could do better with a set of good eyes behind the sights, Williams FP and Lyman 66a.

Pardon me for asking, as I don't wish to hi-jack this thread, but as I'm seriously considering getting a NOE SC311-165-HP (which I believe is basically a RD with conventional lube grooves), can you gentlemen that use them shed a little light on their feeding attributes in both lever and bolt guns? Specifically, I'ld be feeding them to a Winchester '94, Marlin 336, Remington 7600, 600, and 673, an FN Mauser '98, and Springfield 1903 and 1898 Krags.

The Lyman 311041 is the time proven bullet for the 30-30. The NOE and Lee's are very good copies. I've been using the 311041 since '68 and have a Lee 170 and RD 165 and find myself using the 311041 most often for the 30-30 and other 30 caliber cartridges.

NOE's version of the 311041 is their 311-180-FN, I believe.
The 2 311-165s vary in the nose profile. The original 311-165-RF works great in throats that have room, the second version (SC 311-165-RF) with a step-down just forward of full diameter on the nose may fit better if your throat is short.
All 3 are good choices if they fit well. I have used them in various 30-30s, 308s, and 30-06s with very good results.

I have a few from the RCBS someone gave me. Nice looking bullet. I will see how they shoot.

Most moulds for the thirty thirty are good moulds, the best one is of course the one that shoots the best in your gun. Try to locate someone who has a mould and can make a few bollits up for you to try, before you buy!!!!!

I use the Lyman Rifle Bullet Mould: 30 Caliber - #311041

Here is a tray full.

+1 on the Lee 170 flat nose with GC. I use it over 30.5 gr. of IMR 4064 in my 336. Works great with no leading. Deer killer for sure.
