Just been up Cape York for 12 days, pigging and fishing. Here are some of the better pigs we got - both shot and dogged.

Nice work. What was the alloy and velocity with the 44mag projectiles - you seem to achieve textbook expansion without fracturing or fragmenting, the holy grail of cast bullet hunting.

Thanks guys - these are plain old air cooled clip on WW's launched @1500fps.

Fishing - I hooked six barramundi one day and lost each one when they flicked the lure!

Frustrated!

Looks like you had a very good time and thanks for sharing the photos. I am rather disappointed though, even with the blurred face, you don't look anything like your avatar...

That is also my go to .44 boolit, I powder coat mine, nice shooting! Ride the country side of some pests and fill the larder and make an excuse to fire up the smelter again, sounds the perfect get away.

Sounds like a great trip with quite a few boars taken that had decent choppers.

To get these guys going you should post up some photos of the mud crabs.

33 Douglas Points.

It's a method of measuring and scoring tusks, antlers, horns, etc.

Yeah mate, great time away.

Nice trophy's and great feast! I would be tempted to try cut a piece of wood out of that washed out tree and the tree base pictured. Might give interesting wood for handgun grips!

Cape York is very remote is it not? Wondering how these hogs got introduced there? Terrific animals and great photos. Love that crab too!

That is the sort of bullet bulletmakers send to their advertising agencies. I am a little surprised that pure wheelweights didn't break up, usually into about three pieces with the biggest one pointed. With some game that is far less harmful than some people think. But for anything as tough and as inclined to payback as pig, you need it to stay together.

Saw a good sized doe Tues nite that walked about 30' from the stand. Saw a small 8pt buck & another doe Wed morning at the feeder but no pigs. Darn, wanted to get one with the 300BO or 308W but! Deer were fun to watch through the scope. Trapped a pig overnite, released & then shot it Thurs. morning, ~ 200#. Friend got it in the left front leg and I got a butt shot. Tracked it ~150 yds. Didn't find but one entry hole so he said I get it. First 2 shots from 40SW 165gr cast were low, saw the rump hit on the third. Those suckers really run fast. I think they call it is Texas heart shot.

Yes, very remote.

One way they got there is apparently by British explorer Captain James Cook releasing animals like pigs on larger islands when he mapped them, so in future there would be food for any shipwrecked sailors. Certain strains of razorbck pigs are called "Captain Cookers" in his honour. :D He also planted coconut trees on his travels for the same reason. Early settlers in these areas also had pigs as stock.

Yeah, I load the Lyman Devastator as well, cast from COWW's and loaded to 1650fps. It expands violently as you'd expect, the nose peels right off. I wasn't sure how big the pigs would be up there, so I went with the Lee for more punch-through power in case the average pig was real big.

Markbo - you are right, but I've been here longer than any other place. It is usually used to refer to a poorly chosen shot. I was surprised what a 165 TC ACWW will do at 15 yds & ~ 900 fps. Even more surprised I hit anything at that range without my glasses.
