Got this guy this morning in WV. Great fun! Traditions Crockett .32 with a patched round ball. Unfortunately I hit it poorly, through the body, so there was a lot of meat damage.

A front stuffer squirrel is meat on the table! :) Great job!!

Where did you get your sling? I like it.

Those soft lead round balls sure can do the damage. Bet he didn't know what hit him.

You're right. He just fell out of the tree and never moved again.

No way. I'm going to have to check for that next time I am there.

Congrats! Now you need to skin that tree rat out and tan the hide - make yourself a hat! LOL I'll bet you were thrilled! Nothing like a 32 or a 36 on a tree rat. I got a few when I was a kid . . . but I scared the heck out of many more than what I got! Enjoy!

I wasn't going to talk about the three I missed the day before. That evening, my brother-in-law, expert in all things ballistic, helped me to figure out the sight picture. I still have more work to do in that area but it was instrumental in the next day's success.

Congratulations. Squirrels are big game IMHO. I love the Crockett and owned/hunted with one for nearly 14 years. It's the real deal for squirrels. What load were you using?

20 grains of FFFG and a patched round ball. I'm going to try and work up a lighter load. I'll start with 10 grains and increase if accuracy demands it.

Nice job, I have not taken my Crockett yet out for squirrels but soon I will.

I use my 50cal with a Lee 250gr REAL. It just bores a nice clean .5" hole through them. You do really have to pick your shots carefully though. Having a dead stop behind the squirrel is a must for safety reasons.

BTW: Nice shootin neighbor. ;)

That REAL would be real tough to get down the barrel of a .32

:)

In the early frontier days a bounty was place on squirrel scalps and kids became expert eliminators of the pest. Reason for the bounty. Consider a clearing with a corn field placed in the middle of a dense forest populated by thousands of hungry squirrels, eliminate the squirrels or enjoy a crop of corn stalks.
