I shot a bunch of random loads to mainly check functioning, which was good. Very smooth lever action. A crisp but heavy trigger, about 6 pounds. No FTFs.

I put an old K4 on it low over the Bore.

I did find a couple loads ithttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/11/6ce7549fef86e7c585c068c1628606ec.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/11/3f3d9aa486b246e66c57a3c4b5198ce1.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/10/11/92dac49c6b8218d5a0cb87e49240175b.jpg likes. A hunting load with a jacketed 150 RN. Gave me a two inch group at 100. But that was a test-- this will be a cast rifle.

It seemed to like the Lee flat nose 175 grain, sized to .310 and pushed by Red Dot. See photo.

nice gun and good shooter, enjoy. I took one like that and trimmed it down trying to match the win 94's weight and now is almost my favorite 30-30.

I plan to polish the trigger to see if I can lighten it a couple pounds.

I am not surprised, my Glenfield 30 will do that frequently. The half mag Marlin is the cheap levergun that thinks it's a quality bolt action

There is a fairly easy mod to getting good triggers on a Marlin. It involves a back cut on the sear to reduce contact area, and some stoning of the parts. Don't reduce the hammer notch, as it will commonly make the sear catch the safety notch on the way down. I have all my Marlins set to 2.5# with all factory parts, so it is doable. Good luck and have fun with your new gun :)

I dropped the trigger pull from about 6 pounds to just over 4x by simply cleaning, polishing and lubricating. It's surprising how simple it is to break a Marlin 336/Mod. 30 down.

After I put some more ammo through it, I plan to seriously look at reducing the pull. 3x would be good, 2.5 very nice. I see you can buy a drop in trigger--but it costs half as much as the whole rifle did!

I did a step by step on here with pics years ago, but I think it is lost now, and I no longer have the pics. A fellow member told me how to do it, if I remember his name I will post it. He set his competition 336 to not much over a pound, and said is had remained unchanged for many thousands of rounds. All factory parts and springs, only expense is your time.

I did some bubba trigger work. I cut a piece of brass feeler gauge and epoxied it to the back of the trigger notch, reducing the depth. It reduced the pull to a crisp 2 pounds. I figured if I screwed up, I could heat it off or file it down.

i meant it as a temporary test. But I like it so much, l'm going to leave it. If It falls off I'll figure out how to make it permanent.

I shot the Glenfield at 100 yards today. I got some 1"-2 1/2" groups with the Lee 175gr. Flat point and Tite Group, but plagued by fliers. Now that I've got the trigger tuned, I'll work up some serious loads.

Ran out of the FP boolits, so I shot some hot loads with 3031 and the pointy Lee sks slug--they sucked, 4-5" groups.

Thanks for for all the info.

Try some IMR 4895 and the 150 grain Lee sized to .310. Mine really likes 28 grains. H4198 looks promising but haven't had the chance to use it much yet.
