At long last I finally got to the range to give my MGM 14" T/C Contender barrel in .44 magnum a workout. It shoots great.

Load was Lyman #429244 cast ACWW gas-checked and sized .431", 19grains of 2400 powder.

25 yard groups were one-holers, 50 yard groups went into 3/4" for three shots, and at 100 yards groups were 2.5" for five shots. Shot some groups with the Lyman Devastator HP with the same load and they were identical to the Lyman #429244.

My scope was an older and well used T/C 3x, that had hundreds of rounds of .35 Remington loads to it's credit, and it still gets the job done.

Absolutely no leading, as the MGM barrel is smooth as glass inside. I did have two extractors from MGM, but neither was right for the .44 mag cartridge, so I ordered one from J.D. Jones ($20 delivered)and it is perfect. Just wish the folks at MGM could get the right dimensions for the .44 mag extractor, as this is my only complaint. Otherwise, they make a great barrel.

I will try to get some pictures posted.

151352Just a sample of the groups, representative of how the MGM barrel shoots. NO tweeking of loads as yet, but plenty good for deer out to 100 yards.

Great groups out of a great gun. If it does this well now, I can't wait to see how well it does when you work up a load for it.
