What does everybody do with their empty 1lb smokeless powder bottles after they empty them? Anything creative? I just hate throwing them away

I would think, that with appropriate labeling, they might be useful in breaking down 8# containers to a more convenient size. That reminds me, I'm going to check the plastic symbol to see what else might be used.

I use them for breaking down 8 lb. jugs. They are a lot easier to deal with.

Mine are piling up on a shelf in my shed, I know I will find a use for them one day!

The Vihtavuori cans are commonly used to store empty cases or bullets. Cut off the entire top, or turn the can on it's side and cut a suitable size hole to get a deep "tray".

I have also used one applying LLA.

I have a couple with black and white photo chemicals in em. They keep the light out and are free. Problem is you only need a few of them and run into the same problem of what to do with the empties all over again.

Use them for anything that is "light sensitive". Especially breaking down 8 pounders! I even use those 5oz white pill bottles for small quantities of powder. Same plastic. #2. Just not black and you do not want to store them in direct sunlight. (who in their right mind would store even the black ones in the sun!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?)

Make sure you get the same plastic material (the bottom of the bottles has a mark with an identifying number)...other kinds of plastic may interact with the plastic and cause a real problem...I save them...take the labels off..clean and let them air out for quite a while and breakdown 8# jugs..or you can sell them on e bay for about $3.

Hmmm, I got 3 one gallon paint cans full of the old 4831. Now it is in the one pound containers and properly marked.
That old powder sure is wonderful to use!!

What do you do with your old 8 and 4 pound containers?!!

A shot bag that was coming apart so the shot was transferred to a powder bottle a few days ago. I forgot what was in it (no chance of thinking it was powder) and started to pick it up to stow it. Felt like it was glued to the counter until I remembered I had filled it with shot.

Been using them for extra brass storage. Still have a lot sitting on a shelf along with some coffee cans. Might be good for nuts and bolts in the shop, just tape one of the contents of the jar to it's side using clear packing tape for identification.

Re-labeling for breaking down 8 lb. jugs of powder. Storing lead birdshot with an appropiate label. Small acp brass storage and labeled. Configured a jug to be a primer catcher for my Hornady Pro-Jector press. Jacketed bulk bullet storage.Robert

I re-fill them from the 8 pound jugs and keep them on the bench.
spilling or putting the wrong powder in a 1 pound jug is a LOT less painful than doing it with an 8lb jug.

they are also great for keeping steel shot dry when it's stored in the garage.
I dunno what to do with the 4 and 8 lb jugs.
I'd like to clean them and store rice or beans or something in them, but I'm not sure if that's feasible.

As others have stated breaking down a larger bottle , and,,, I use an empty Hodgdon, bottle, to put a partial on my Harrell powder measure. As,,, Alliant and Vhitavouri do not work.

I mostly purchase 8 lbs and a few 4 or 5's. A 1 pounder is a rare cat at my house.

Break down larger jugs. W/ appropriate lot number applied to it. Larger jugs get thrown in the recycling bin.

Its usually not hard to find some use for the containers, tho their not clear to where you would know what was in them for nuts or bolts.

But I have repurposed them for other powder. Bought a keg of solo 1000, came in a cardboard keg. Just peel the labels off, come off without leaving sticky stuff to deal with. Then a label maker to know whats in it now.

That's one, the rest were discarded in a recent move.

There will be many more. I like the Boolit boottles suggestion.

Recycle at the dump. I keep my powders in the cans they come in. One at a time out of the storage locker when being used. That way no chance of getting 2 mixed together. SAFTEY first folks.

I use my Alliant bottles to tumble brass in my Harbor Freight double tumbler. Just add rubber bands to give some grip.

My rubber drums got round on the bottom and would stop when they were together.
I use stainless steel pins. The 45s don't come out of the small opening very good, but they shake out. I also use plastic peanut butter jars.
I use o-rings as my belt drive on the tumbler. I cut them to size and super glue them back together. They last forever.

I use the large 8 lbs for loaded shotgun shell transport containers to a from the skeet fields for practice rounds, generally 410, 28. I use old shot bags sewn into sacks with handles for 20 & 12.

I cut a window in the top that I can get my hand in for easy access.

I pulled off the labels off four and printed new labels and store my gator gas checks in them. Others with the correct label like others break down the 8 and 4 pounders. Bill
