Title says it all.Has anyone tried this or even the 250 Savage. Does magazine need to be changed or does it feed alright with the long mag. ?

I think it would be complicated if doable. 30-06 to 25-06 ought to be easy. I think your conversion to 22-250 would entail changes to the magazine, bolt, and a rebarrel. You would have to virtually build a new gun to imitate an inexpensive one. It would be easier and cheaper to keep the 06 and buy a 22-250.

The Savage Axis is easy to work on. I already have a 22/250 barrel. All I need to do is switch the barrel. I was just wondering if the 22/250 without having to change magazines. Having a longer bolt throw is not a bother to me if the 22/250 will feed with no problems using the longer mag. I know many have barrel to 243 win or 7mm-08 with no problems with the longer mag.

I just measured the case head of both the 30-06 and 22-250 and they were exactly the same. The bolt head should be fine then. I would say try it. Throw the barrel on and try feeding some 22-250 from the magazine. If it cycles fine your gtg. At least if you want to shoot the heavy bullets you will be able to seat them to the lands and not have to worry about mag length. Putting a barrel on a savage is just like an AR so its not a big deal if it doesn't work and you want to go back to 30-06. Let us now how it feeds and if it feeds then go shoot it!

The taper on the 22-250 and the 06 should be similar enough to feed well. You may want to put a spcer in the mag. Maybe not

30-06 sav110 to 243 I used a follower from short action spacer is a piece of plastic that was handy wood would work also about 1/2 inch thick glued to back of magazine to take up space short mag wouldn't fit as the cutout for the mag well is to long

I shoot two different Savages, both have been re-barreled from 30-06 to 22-250. work great, easy to do.

Last week I was working on a Savage 22-250 last week that did not eject hard enough.
I googled the problem and was surprised the problem was so often confined to that cartridge.
We swapped out the ejector and ejector spring and it works good enough now. It is no longer a single shot.
