Sorry for the beat to death questions but a friend of mine owes me money and has offered a Hornady 366 or a MEC 9000 as compensation.

The MEC is new in box and the 366 is real clean but it's just the press in 12ga, no accessories.

I reload metallic on Dillon's so new to shotshell but not reloading.

I'm shooting about 5 to 6 hundred rds a month.

Any opinions which way to go?

You can't go wrong with a MEC. I have 5 of them and they just keep pumping out the shells.

the MEC 9000 is the preferred press by a mile...

sorry fellas but i vote for the 366. I've loaded on one since 1979. still going strong. produces very consistent powder and shot throws. also very good crimps.

MEC 9000, it's the Dillon 650 of shot shell loaders

Watch these 2 videos and go from there.
Mec: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tepLTC-gXSU
Hornady: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt1DSk6SUy8

I've used the Mec alot aka. started with a Jr. in 12ga. went to a N 650 (didn't like it have to size the brass seperate), Grabber 76 (12ga.) Grabber 8567 (20ga.) and 9000G (28ga.). I still use a Mec Jr for .410, 16ga and 10ga. When I bought the 9000G I fell in love with the machine.

Never used the Hornady 366 looks like a great machine the only rub I have is you have to handle the hull 2x before it gets moving in the press. Also I really don't care for the slide over resizing it uses, hence why I like the grabber machines Mec puts out.

Both companys have good customer service (used Mec with some teck issues when I bought my used 9000) and have delt with Hornady in the past great folks.

I have a old MEC Size Master in 20 ga. that will not die. I would buy another MEC in a heartbeat and a 9000 would be even better.

I have used the MEC 9000 for the last 20 years, hard to beat MEC.

Actually the SL900 is the 650 of shot shell loaders, looks like the same casting is used for both.

I don't have a 9000 but the way my MEC jr is made I wouldn't trade one of my 366's for one.

Thanks guys for the insight. I took the MEC for two reasons, it was new in box, and my uncle is still loading dove shells on a MEC that is in pictures of me and my grandfather from 50 years ago!

I have to agree this is as close to my 650's as it may get.

The SL900 is sure sexy (and I was about to order one but he offered the trade)but the MEC was $200, what my buddy owed me, so...
