Checked the moon phase calendar, said 6:40-8:40pm was major movement time, 6:45 I shot a #110 doe, weight is dressed out. I shot her at 30yds with my crossbow, having to use one to hunt this year in archery season, due to extensive rotator cuff surgery. Have her boned out and on ice, to be ground up tomorrow! I put burger in 1# packs for me and the wife, should make about 35 or so packs, plus back straps and sweetbreads in the freezer, a lot of good meals for me and the wife! Not had much time to hunt, but been on a roll last week, 2 turkeys and 1 deer, in 7 days, all archery tackle! May get a buddy to post a pic, have been truly blessed!

Congratulations. How much longer does your bow season stay open? Been getting any rain much up that way?

Roverboy, we had been dry for 7 weeks, rain last 4 days, my sweet potatoes needed it! Our bow season runs from first weekend of Sept., to mid January! You can only kill one buck, per year, period, and then if you buy the double bonus archery/doe tag good for 2 does, and on your deer tag you get a buck and doe tag, so 3 does, 1 buck per year archery. I live in the most restricted zone 4. Zone 1 you can buy unlimited doe tags, or use farmers crop tags, kill all the does you want, gun, ML, or bow! I gun hunted there for 2 days and killed 8 one year!

roverboy, the limits in my part of GA are 10 does and two bucks per year. Gun season is Oct 17 to Jan something. One of the bucks has to have at least 4 points longer than an inch. Wife & I are empty nesters now with the child off at college so a couple does will go a long way but nice to know I can get more if I want.

Nice doe. Wish I could afford a crossbow since they are now legal in WV. I can't pull my compounds anymore with my shoulders. I can manage a long bow.
I would need some way to cock a cross bow by winding it back too.

Bravo on the good eats doe & turkeys. Are you saving one for turkey day?

Have you ever thought about the older like the Darton SL50. They have a half way break point with 50 to 65% let off with the eccentric or high energy wheels and keeping the poundage down to around 45 to 55 lbs or there abouts you may be able to still do a little bow hunting. Look at bows in the late '70s to early '90s. They might not get the blazing 350 fps of todays bows, but will get over 200 fps and shoot easy with plenty of forgiveness. The SL50 is like the 94 30-30 in archery to gun deer hunting. You can get these types of bows relatively cheap on craigslist. They are like putting about 6 or 7 gr of unique under a 200 gr boolit in a 44 special in a 44 mag SBH compared to a full charge of 296 and a 300 gr boolit. There are other manufactures as well.

I have older Brownings with a lot of let off. But it is the weight of the bows that I can't hold out anymore, even a heavier rifle is hard. My long bows weigh nothing and I can hold them.

Something like this old Browning. Other than a couple very small wheels an two cables this is pretty close to a long or recurve bow. Very light, easy to pull back and hold. I knew someone that had one of these in #45 that hunted and killed deer with it. This can't be more than about 8 oz more than a longbow and pulling and holding back would be like to easy. They come in different weights from about #35 to #60.
