Mr dewey (of dewey cleaning rods) customized some lugers prior to his untimely death in the late 60-early 70's. This is one that I know own. It bounced around a bit on the net before I got it, I only have info on it over the past 5 yrs. Note the rear sight, porting and custom barrel. Trigger was clearly worked on also, it is great! What a fun shooter.

Super nice..my Luger is a mixmaster of parts, but I still like it.

I haven't pulled apart the Dewey. Externally it matches but who cares in a custom? The top artillery is all matching, bottom matches except magazine I think. That is my other shooter. Mixmasters are great. U can enjoy what u own!

Nice piece. What caliber is it? Looks like it says .32 something on top of the barrel crown.

barrel says 9mm
it also says 32 zwirz, not sure what that means. Maybe a last name. Prior owner ran it w 9mm. Using a micrometer it seems to measure the same as my other 9mms

What was that commandment about "Thou shalt not covet"?

What was that commandment about "Thou shalt not covet"?

Livestock, servants, wife, as I recall, weapons are not mentioned, per se, but I guess anything that is thy neighbor's would cover it.

Hi...

Have to agree about the"mixmasters"...

My Luger is all matching except the magazine and a mismatched grip panel.

I shoot it regularly as it has no real collector value. Everytime I pull it out of the range bag at the gun club, I get requests from whomever is on the pistol range to be allowed to shoot it. Most have never even seen or handled one outside of a gun show. I get the same reaction with my nickle-plated Webley revolver.

Both my artilleries and one of my army's are matching so I don't shoot them. The sights leave a lot to be desired on the army (4") version.

For those that don't know Lugers, all of the internal parts including the springs are numbered to the gun. Replace any one of those numbered parts and the value is greatly reduced (50% or more).

Nice collection Plastikosmd.

That is a very interesting Luger. Is that a Colt "Acro" sight on it?

also says 32 zwirz

In the 60s and 70s there was a gun writer named Bob Zwirz who wrote for "Gun World" magazine. Perhaps this Luger passed through his hands.

Update: This must be where you found it. It does refer to Bob Zwiz as its possible owner.

Great little Luger collection, and it's good that they've got a home where they're understood, and appreciated. So many have fallen into the hands, estates, usually, where the heirs have no clue what they are, and a few have even been thrown in the trash because the heir "didn't like guns." That kind of ignorance and lunacy just keeps the value of yours going skyward.

I just traded off a very nice gun for another, and had twice turned down double the money I had in it. But it was a really unique, fine and special gun that is rare, and even rarer to be seen for sale, and I was just glad it found a new home where it could get to be used as it was intended, and show its stuff. The older I've gotten, the less I appreciate safe queens, except those of historical value like those Lugers. Those with real historical value really need to be preserved as close to as is condition as possible .... assuming we HAVE a history AHEAD of us, of course.

Thanks for the great post.

makes sense, previous owner got it from the collectors group. I grabbed a couple of their pics but never read the writeup. good to know, now I guess I can trace it back to original owner, previous owner and the reseller. Not sure where else it has been. Thank you all for the information!

as to the sight, not sure what an acro site would look like, I can take a better pic

Colt Accro sights were installed on many of the old school Colt revolvers and often the Colt Ace 1911 .22 pistol. An upgrade to the Accro was the Elliason sight found on some Pythons and the Colt Cold Cup 1911.

I found this photo of the Accro sight. Looks like it might be the sight instaled on your Luger.

That does look like it, from memory. I will look closer when I am home
