Any 460 Rowland 1911 shooters? Has the 460 Rowland in the 1911 ever caught on or just a fad? I like to concept of has a interchangeable barrel, where you can shoot 45 ACP or 460 Rowland with a barrel swap. Better off just beefing up the spring on the 1911 and shooting 45 Super loads VS building a 460 Rowland setup.

I think it is a fad. Probably the 10MM in the 1911 platform has stolen a lot of the 460 Rowland thunder.

"Probably the 10MM in the 1911 platform has stolen a lot of the 460 Rowland thunder"

How could a cartridge that was around for 15 years, 1983, steal the thunder from the 460 Rowland which only came along in 1998? It may have suppressed the thunder. I think it will be around to stay. Way more gun than the 10mm. Way more thunder than a 10mm.

460 Rowland is sort of a handloaders thing so tends to restrict its use. Yes you CAN buy ammo for it, somebody usually comes along with a link to say your wrong, but not something you can generally walk into a shop and buy. 45 super isn't any different. Only time I see people talking about 45 super is handloaders. I use 45 super, in my convertible blackhawk. Have considered trying it in my 1911, but requires me to buy the brass to feed it, way easier to hold onto brass from a revolver. I have looked at various things, 400corbon is one, but didn't see any sort of real gain for the effort and expense. 40 super really hucks bullets down range, but barrels are not easy to get or cheap. I have not got into 10mm due to the extra expense, brass, dies, etc. 460 seems cool, but not sure what I would even use it for. Already have a hand cannon if the need arises.

I have the Lone Wolf 6.5" barrel, I bought a 28 lb recoil spring with the solid guide rod. This goes in my Glock 21 G4. With the Lee 452-255 RF powder coated sized to .452, using a stiff charge of BlueDot I am gettig 1250FPS at 25 yards I love the 460 Rowland!!

I've got the conversion in a Kimber Classic Gold Match and I love it. That is what I carry when hunting. I did the conversion with the intent of using it for hogs but it is now my carry of choice when in the woods with bow or rifle.

I have basically the .460 Rowland in a G21, but using a .45 ACP chambered barrel. I call it my .45 SUPER +P+. Same power level, but uses .45 ACP length brass. Just need to make sure I don't put any of those loads in my .45 ACP handguns. Rowland claims that you can shoot .45 ACP out of the Rowland barrel, but my experience with Winchester White Box ammo was that the spring was too heavy and the brass would not eject. I haven't tried doing this to a M1911 though. I have tried using a .460 loading with just normal .45 ACP brass and surprisingly, it didn't blow up in my hand. This also works in the Ruger .45LC/ACP Blackhawk with no noticeable case issues.

With 12.0 gr of Longshot and a 230 gr bullet, it's supposed to be 906 ft-lbs. With the longer barrel that I'm using, maybe a bit more. I was expecting more recoil though. Perhaps that big brick grip on the Glock is distributing the force a bit?

I care not if it is fad or famous. I am lucky enough to be a handloader so I load for it. A purpose built Wison upper on a Caspian SS lower. Added a rail for light and top rail for red dot. It is the swine's most feared predator in a small package. I am a big fan.

Just wondering if there is any frame damage long term? One would think that much power would really batter a pistol.

I run the 45 Super sparingly with my 1911's but if I went to the 460 Rowland, I think I'd go with a Glock 21. That's one bad round in a small package with a lot of follow-up rounds, if needed. I think it's here to stay for the serious heavy hitting bottom feeder pisterlo.

I think you would do best with an XD conversion.

Plus, if it did eventually ruin the gun after many thousands of rounds, it's no great loss. Difficult to form an attachment to a piece of soulless plastic... :)

I sure like it in my 625, a lot more than in the 1911.
