Yesterday I used the new auto drum powder measure on a classic turret for some cast .30-06. To my surprise the charging die would not allow full ram travel. I have both long and short charging dies, not bought as a set. Can anyone tell me if there has been a redesign now that Lee sells both dies in a kit. I did call Lee and was told the rifle charging die should work on .30-06 with full ram travel and they are sending me a new powder insert for the die thinking maybe it came with the wrong one installed. It has been used with .308, 7.62x54R, .303 British, 7.5x55 and 8x57 Mauser. Any help would be appreciated.

very ironic......

i just set up a lee PPM to work for my 30-06 future...

i removed 1/4" from the drop tube ( the rolled steel tube that sets up against the brass inserts in the powder through die )

i now have all threads in my loadmaster turret.

if i wrote this wrong message me and ill clarify.

I use the rifle charging die with the .308. I just don't care if there is full ram travel as all you are doing is just charging the case. If it stops short, I don't care as long as the charge goes into the case.

I now have the new charging die kit from Titan and I knew I wasn't crazy the new long charging die that has the same part number as the original rifle charging die is different. It is long enough to charge .30-06 cases with full ram travel already checked in Lee classic turret and RCBS Pro 2000. Looks like it will also work fine in Dillon 450/550 and Hornady LNL AP.150520150522150523150524The last picture shows the 2 dies that are the same part number.
