Mayhaw2:

You just missed one that was offered here a couple of days back. It's coming to me - supposed to have light rust so we'll see how it goes; I might could loan it to you if it proves out OK. It is an odd .45 ACP bullet with what looks like a full-fledged boat-tail, not just a bevel-base!, only listed for one year by Lyman (1962). Where did you run across it? PM me in a week or so and remind me.

thats an odd mold. Ive got a 4 cavity but wont sell it. Floodgate im still up in the air about that base. It looks like a boatail and not a bevel base but if you want to really shake your head a gas check crimps to in just like it was made for it so i dont know if that mold wasnt origninal designed to be used as both a plain base and a gas check.

I have two 4 Cavity 45266's but I'm not selling either. Took me quit a while to find them. The 45266 was a very popular bullet for bullseye shooting in the 60's and 70's but I rarely see them on the line anymore. I know a couple old Bullseye shooters who have the molds, but no one wants to sell them.

It is more of a boat tail than a bevel base

For a mould that was only catalogued for one year, it seems to have been amazingly popular! I wonder if it was an early example of a "group buy" by a bunch of competition .45 ACP shooters?

This mold is listed as Test #13 in the .45 ACP Handload Accuracy article on page 32 of Cast Bullets by Harrison. There was only one test listed for this mold, yet it produced the smallest 30 shot composite group 2.30 inches at 50 yards.

Unfortunately my mold is only a single cavity, even if it would prove the most accurate boolit for my 45, I don't think I have the patience to cast more than 100 in a session!

That looks very much like an H&G 78, which also use to be popular among Bullseye shooters. It's essentially a 45266 without the boat tail.
