A gunsmith has recommended based on his ref material a barrel with 1-24 twist and .500 bore, .515 groove. Grooves of .0075 seem too deep to me for mostly PPB shooting.

Im thinking more like .504 bore and .512 groove. What say you?

What weight of bullet do you want to shoot?

The 24 inch twist is too fast for the common 450 grain bullets and they are mostly .515 dia.
Most of the 24 twist barrels are .512 which means your .525 bullets are too large.

400 to 470 gr PP is what I'm aiming at.

It appears Shiloh is .500 bore; 510 groove; and 1-22 twist. 1-36 on special request.

what you need is this .500 .508 1/28 twist. have the oregon rifle barrel co. make you one to these specs. i have a 1/23 custom muzzle loader i built for my self and it takes a 680 to 720 grain bullet. you could even go 1/30 for the bullets you want to shoot.
