Are you talking about the 8/32 plinker ? If so they are doing OK for the first couple loads I did , still need to work on it tho , work just gets in the way of having fun , ya know .

P. S. This is the one I have it's the 323 plinker : http://castboolits.gunloads.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2969&d=1170260685 .

Yes, thats the one. I finally got to shoot some in a Yugo 24/47. I loaded some as cast, about .325 and used 14 gr unique. I seated some with 2 grooves exposed, and some with 3. They were awful. 2 ft grp at 50 yds. Same gun shoots about 2" with Lee 175 gc , same load. Back to the drawing board.

DaveB:

May I suggest between 9.5 - 11.2 Unique with your bullet ? 14 grs.may be a little too fast for the plain based bullet. When you seat the bullet, are you seating the bullet out far enough with the loaded round to allow the bullet to be engraved by the lands of the barrel " lightly" when the round is chambered and the bolt is closed ? I find that if the bullet has to make a long jump to get to the lands that accuracy usually goes " South " rather quickly. Seat the bullet out into the lands and accuracy comes back to acceptable standards.

You may also want to try 8.0 B'eye

I'm shooting 7.8 B'eye in a .308 Win. with a 200 gr. plain based bullet. It is shooting VERY WELL , this is a 5 shot group at 50 yards with that load :

I've been shooting them sized to 0.325" and seated so the base of the boolit is at the bottom of the case neck with 6.5 gr. of Bullseye. Nicely accurate at 100 yds.

I shot some for fun offhand today--have no idea what the group was but I got blackening around the neck with 15 gr imr4227. I put a bullet in a snug fitting case, sticking out excessively, and closed the bolt. When I opened, 2 grooves were exposed, so thats where I seated the bullet to.

Thanks guys. I think next batch I'll slow them down a bit and try" the old close the bolt on a loose bullet trick". I saved several rnds ,so I will try them in a Yugo 48a. I sure hope these work out, as my 175gr mold is a one holer.

I shot a batch of twenty over 8.5 grains Unique and got very good results at 100 yds. Ironically I leaded the M24/47 barrel very badly. I'm a bit puzzled at that. These were air-cooled and tumbled-lubed w/alox.

Could you have buy chance left some copper fouling it the barrel before shooting the lead boolits?
The copper will work like abrasive on the lead.

I slugged the throat on this M24/47 again and this time the grooves measured .324, the same diameter I sized the plinkers. I must had a few slightly undersized but all it takes is one to get a leaded barrel.

Hi Ben,

I know you shoot .30-06 and was wondering if you have had any luck using B-eye in that thing or in a .30-30 for that matter. I have lots of Bullseye to shoot up!

The 6.5 Bullseye is a pretty standard load for PB bullets of 150 -170 gr in .30, .31 and .32 cal rifles of this gender. As 45 2.1 says "Nicely accurate at 100 yds" and that they almost always are.

I sized my last batch of 8mm plinkers at .325" and loaded over 1cc (9.2 grains) of Unique. Excellent results at 100 yds, no leading. Very mild report.
