Some reviews indicate that the Henry's will not feed reliably if not held perfectly straight up and down and thus not canted even slightly to one side. Also, I've inferred that .44s feed more reliably than .38/.357s. A factory rep told me that he had no knowledge(?)of feeding issues not related to ammo. Any opinions?

Most likely operator error was the culprit in the negative reviews, which were not majority opinions.

To be truthful, I haven't heard anybody complain about their henry, any I heard of with any problem, had nothing but praise for the company for the way they took care of it.

There is a Henry chat forum now running, http://www.henryfirearms.org. There are some reports of growing pains with the H009, but Henry has taken care of it quickly.

I have a .357 Big Boy and I personally have never had trouble with it, but a friend of mine was shooting it one day and was having feeding troubles with it. He was trying to be gentle with it and the results were not favorable. Once he started treating it like any other lever action and quit trying to play extra nice, everything was fine.

FWIW. YMMV.

Very wide WFN type bullets can cause more feeding problems if the rifle is not 90 deg., I've found this with all brands of leverguns.

I'm the o.p. My .44 is excellent in all respects. I agree that the lever should be operated briskly. If not, my gun feeds anyway. Brisk operation ensures perfect smoothness.
