At one of our wildlife club meetings I made a comment that I would love to own a M1 carbine 30 cal. rifle, but just can't afford one. Today a member of the club came to visit. He is a Vietnam Vet and has the purple heart to prove it. We talked about our tours there (I was there 65-66) when he told me he had two of the carbines. He put one of them on the tail gate of my truck and said "What do you have to trade". I pulled out just about everything I owned. He looked over everything, then picked up a 380 auto pistol I bought for $100. and said, this will do. I objected and told him to please select more items. He said he liked one of the 5 22cal. rifles I had brought out. I gave him the rifle and magazine and he put them in his truck and would not take more. He said he had all he would need and left. The carbine is a Universal but it is gold to me, not only because it is a carbine I have wanted for many years, It was from him and I am grateful for him and what he went through in Vietnam.
