I've got a Super 14 in 44Mag on the way. What is your favorite mold/load for the TC?

I have the Lyman 429421, the RCBS 44-245-SWC, and the RCBS 44-250-K modified to HP. All shoot great. I am honestly still trying to figure out which I like best between the 429421 and the 44-245-SWC, and they are very close and work about the same, but I use them both for when I want a solid nose. I use the 44-250-K(HP) when I am loading to closer to .44 SPL loads or when I want to use a .44 Mag for varmint hunting. Don't get me wrong, it seems to work great on coyote and hogs ( I haven't taken a deer with this bullet yet), but a friends dad feels better when we use a HP design on his land cause he doesn't worry about his cows that way. I will try this one on a deer next chance I get, but expect good results. These bullets get used in a Contender and also a SBH, pushed with 10.0grs Unique, but I'm thinking I may back that load down a bit.

Also, let me know if you want me to send you a few of each and see if yours likes them as much as mine does.

There is a group buy for the old H&G 503 going on now. It is close to the 429421 Lyman. this is an excellent boolit for anything I have ever shot it in.
However; I think the Lyman 429460 HP would make a better killing boolit for deer out to 50 yds.

The LEE 310 at 1,350 fps. from my 10" shot into 5/8" at 50 yards. I couldn't find much to fault there. The non existent crimp groove for once wasn't an issue :)

Good point. I didn't think of that.

Good point. I didn't think of that.

I'm sure you work all your loads up, but it is worth mentioning a load that is fine in my "weak" S&W 629 will lock my Contender up tight. It apparently makes much more pressure in the TC. The Contender is WAY faster, so even reduced loads still end up fast.

In my 44 Magnum Contender for big game hunting using a cast bullet I prefer the Lyman Devastator 429640HP cast of 16-1 alloy (270 gr fully dressed) loaded over 23 gr of H110. My barrel is 8.4" long and the velocity is 1486 fps with 10 shot groups running 1 - 1.5" at 50 yards.

For a medium range load I prefer either the RCBS 44-250-K over 9 gr Unique for 1121 fps and excellent accuracy.

My S&G load is usually with the Lee TL430-240-SWC cast of range scrap + tin + lead over 7.5 gr Bullseye or 8.5 gr Tin Star. Velocity is 950 fps +/-.

I also use the 429640 and 429421 in my 14" Super. I find the 421 hard hitting for big game
