Steyr model "M" trigger guard

Friend's rifle started shooting all over the place. Was shooting 1" at 100yds.
Cleaned all the fouling out of the barrel. Little better.
Took out the action and the trigger guard is plastic. So plastic holding the action to the stock.
Cracked where the front screw holds action to stock.
He said it had happened before. He had another trigger guard.
I can't believe a rifle this expensive has plastic holding the action to the stock.
Instead of replacing the guard I modified it with an aluminum bushing.
Just finished, so I don't know how it works yet. Range closed.
Some pictures of what I did.
One part not pictured is a plastic sleeve that goes through the stock.
It is now part of the bushing I made. It's the lower part in picture #5.
All one piece now so it should be stronger and hold better.

Seems like that was the problem.
Shooting back to normal.
I still can't believe that as much as this rifle is worth, it has so much plastic on it.

Fine work. Done a bit of similar repairs, i loose it!!! Plastic on guns,,,, snap
much better now.
sometimes it helps to rough/texture the aluminum and glue/bed it in place.

Wow! I guess I won't complain so loudly about the plastic on my Savage or Ruger now. Looks like you do excellent work!

Steyr used pressed in barrels and plastic parts before it was cool.

Sorry. Pictures gone.
What I did was machine out an aluminium spacer, that was tapered, to hold the guard in, without using the guard hole to hold the stock in.
The guard was machined, with a taper to fit the spacer.
The guard was a loose, but snug, fit. Just enough to keep it from moving around.
The spacer held the stock to the receiver.
Used the stock screws.
