One of my side hobbies, I do knife making. I made a Damascus razor and after sanding the blade, making an hollow grind and polishing it, i want to bring out the patterns in the metal. I do prefer my double duck and perhaps this might be a patch knife, but who knows.

I love the lines of a razor, I sure hope we can see some pics when it's finished.

Might have a look around on YouTube, usually some pretty good videos on stuff like this. Nurdrage is a professional chemist and has a video on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43Xsh9J7S-g
You can usually figure out fairly quick who knows what they are doing.

I buy it locally for etching circuit boards. Try some electronics supply houses.

nasty stuff.

Wonder how it work on aluminum, as in etching the safe and fire lettering, on AR lowers.

If you can cut your own or have a stencil made, you can use a fine abrasive blaster. I have some tools and a couple of expensive Streamlight flashlights that have anodized aluminum bodies. I cut stencils from tape with my initials in them and stuck onto the light bodies. I used the aluminum oxide abrasive that comes in the kit to etch the stencil pattern and they came out looking great, very crisp and clear, everyone thinks I ordered them like that. If you can get a stencil, like the negative portion? it will work great for that if I had to guess. An AR lower isn't much different than doing my lights. Lots of other nice uses for one too. I even do fine soda blasting with it. I linked the 2 I have below. I actually like the Harbor Freight one better and its cheaper. If you have multiple things to etch, i'd get some extra alum oxide powder abrasive online or locally if you can. It goes quicker than you think but works good. I'll cut it with baking soda to be a little more conservative on useage.
