Did these after supper. About a hour. They were .453's going in. Came out .459. Going to size to .454.

Wow !!!! .006" increase in diameter. I'm only getting about .002" with HF red on 30cal boolits and not much more on anything else. They are definitely coated though.

If you are baking for an hour, part of the problem. 15m top should be fine @ 400.

No. I'm baking for 20 minutes. Which is typically 15 minutes after they get wet looking. I have checked my oven and it's maintaining 400 degrees +/- the normal swing.

Tenbender. I was commenting on your diameter increase. I'm only getting about .002" increase in diameter from HF red.
You wrote that your bullets were .006" bigger in diameter after PC. Why is your PC going on so thick?

I have no idea. I even knock some off on the edge of the cup. Not all are 459 but a lot of them. Half will be 457. I like it thick . I can always size down.

Ok thanks for the reply. I have been kicking around doing a little beagling fallowed by PC to make some .452s into 45-70 boolits. Right now they drop around .454 so I don't think I'll have too much trouble.

I have been using .2 gram white BBs too. I have some .25 gram black on the way. Maybe they will make a difference in PC thickness. The thing is I don't have a .457 or .458 size die either. :(

Motor, I'm using the 20g white bb's. The black might be better but I bought 10000 of these on eBay. I'm going to use them . My mold drops 453. When I use my Lyman lube sizer I use the 454 die. The PC adds plenty to bring me up for a 454 boolit. I'm using Prismatic powder. On my 401's the shake and bake makes a 405 and sometimes more.
Give it a try. The Lee push through 458 sizer is only 20 bucks.

$20. I know but nobody around here stocks anything like that so if I have to order I might as well order a .457" mould too. I have my eye on the Lee 340gr. ;)

I'm using the lee mold that drops 200 gr SWC's at .454. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 coats to bring them up to .460. Makes a great little small game load in the 45/70.

Looking close at your photo your bullets picked up too much powder. The only time I have had this happen is when I preheated my bullets to allow for my high humidity and I got them too hot, so the powder sticks immediately then tends to pick up more. I have found all powders, even Prismatic Solid Color Powders, which I use, will tumble coat differently, but I have never had an excessive coating unless the bullets were heated. I use a tumbler and tumble 5#s of bullets at a time. When I preheat my bullets I start with a small amount of powder with the black BB's and the tumbler running, then slowly drop in the bullets. If I need more coating I sprinkle in a little more powder. Maybe you should try starting out with less powder and add more if needed, as apparently you are not having any trouble getting the powder to coat. You may have a little trouble pushing this batch through the sizer. I use a Lee push through sizing die which works well. If I want a very easy time sizing I spray my pan of bullets with my homemade case lube, which I make by mixing one part Lanolin to 12 parts 99% alcohol. The alcohol evaporate quickly leaving a very slick and very light lanolin coating.

Those look cool. If blue and white produced the same effect they would look like that Coleman camping cook ware. :)

Other than using more powder is a thick coat a problem? I mean as long as it sizes, or is that the problem I'm hearing, at too thick you start to have problems with getting them through sizing die?
