I have one and it was a non catalog item and Browning only made 200 of them.
I think it is worth much more.

.

AFAIK, when one can even be found F/S or F/A, they usually change hands for a bit North of $1K, in pristine condition.

BTW - NO gun is too pretty to shoot ! !

I've regularly shot/hunted with high grade rifles & shotguns for over 40 years, and when one came time to move on down the road, they all looked like they just came out of the box - I just refrain from actually beating the brush with a gun, using a gun as a crutch while stream crossing, or use one to deliver butt-strokes to wounded animals.

The plus is that they can be enjoyed for what they are, during those quiet times, while awaiting game, a ride - whatever.

Your local shop is low balling the price by a mile. Did they have an interest in buying it at that "fair" price? If this gun is in good condition, real good condition.....used but no damage, it's worth over a thousand. Try to find one for sale for less than that. I bought one two years ago for eleven hundred and it was difficult to find. It was in .357. If I were you, I wouldn't take less than a thousand for it. If you want to sell it, put some pics up here and give it a try. I don't think you'll sit on it too long.

I think $1,200-$1,400 would be more realistic as so few were made. Look up to see what one in 223 costs, probably $1,000 plus now days.

I bought a .223 low wall maybe 2 years ago on sale for somewhere around $1100. I see some .45-70s sitting in the $1200 range with no takers, but that's different than a low wall .260. The .30-06 and .270 ones I've seen seem to move around $1000. Like a ruger no1 it seems to take the right kind of shooter/hunter to drop that on a single shot.
