Got an e-mail from Ruger showing their new offerings. Among the pistols is the 25th anniversary making of the semi auto .44 carbine. Wonder if they ironed out the bugs the original model had?Robert

I believe that rifle is being auctioned off, I do not think they've started making them again.

I'd like to see it in a rimless configuration aka Automag.

Curious, what bugs was that. I had one, but probably put less than a thousand rounds of factory ammo through it. I found no bugs though, in fact it worked very well for what it was.

I too had one back in the 80s and that thing never missed a beat. I put a bunch of different brands of ammo though it and whole bunch of hand loads. It is one of the few firearms that I actually regret selling.

I have two of them, just bought my 2nd one back from the guy I sold it to. I am experimenting with near max 44 spcl cases and 200 gr boolits in it and they are shooting great. Throws the empties just a foot or two to the right in a pile. No chasing after brass 30' away. I was always told that you needed to use max or near max magnum loads for the action to work, not true. A real pleasure to shoot too.

I had the Ruger Carbine in '69 , so it is more than 25 years old..

I had one as well, I wish I never sold it. One of the few guns I have sold. Sold it to buy a new Ruger SS All-Weather in 308 when they first came out in late 80's / early 90's. Mine was an older model with a steel butt plate and a nice walnut stock. I almost exclusively shot cast through it with IMR-4227, it would do 4" at 100 yds with iron sights. I always thought it kicked more than it should have. Not bad just more than one would think.

Stock was not sealed inside and would swell. Over the years I fixed many and re-blued them. By the way the cartridge feed would disappear in the blue tank on the early models as they were made of Aluminum. Fix was to make a new one from 1/2 inch alum electrical conduit.

The years made with the non-screwed feeds were made from steel. I like them they are a sweet New England deer/bear rifle.[especially the Williams peep built in ones] Small light and easy to carry. They were way better than the latter ones made on the mini-14 frame.
