I've had great success loading a good utility all around load with this bullet for my 625. Roll crimped it hums along at 865 when loaded over 4.8 of Red Dot, shoots well, smacks steel and reloads very quickly for IPSC. It also shoots very well in 45 schofield cases from my rossi 92. I'm struggling a bit to get a good, consistent load from for my 1911's. The bullet feeds perfectly and is very accurate, but my sr 1911, which has had the throat opened and cleaned and the feed ramp polished and widened, requires the bullet to be seated to 1.660-1.665 in order to pass the plunk test. I essentially have to seat it to the angle change. They are taper crimped to .469. I think the deep seating is due to the fact the bullet drops at .456 ( and weighs a beautiful 236 grains from ww with a decent .300 meplat) and when sized to .452 rebounds to .454. The .454 is what my rossi needs, and does not seem to bother the 625 or the 1911, but I have to put all of the flat side inside the case. I can't seem to find a consistent load. 4.0 grains of Red Dot is around 770 fps. 4.2 bounces around 800 +/- 25 fps and 4.4 is a tight load with an SD around 10, but is running at 885 fps. It makes me nervous to have that big a change with a .2 grain increase. I'm going to switch to unique this evening. I know that 5.2 grains of unique under the lee 230 tc seated to 1.173 and taper crimped to .469 is a dandy: 865 fps and the last time I ran them over the chrony the SD was miniscule. I'm trying to standardize all my bullets for the 45 acp and 45 schofeild. I'd use the Lee230 tc, but even when roll crimped into the last lube wrinkle the bullet walks when fired from the 625, so I'd love to find a good, consistent load with the rcbs 225 cav for my 1911's around 850-865 fps. I'm going to start at 4.8 of Unique and work up until I get consistent velocities and good accuracy . I'm guessing it will be around 5.0 to 5.2 grains of unique at the 1.65 seating depth.
Does anyone have a load that works well with this bullet. I have some titegroup, but 8 lbs of unique and 7 lbs of red dot. I'd prefer to use the Red dot...
