My oldest and dearest friend was informed today that he has about 2 weeks left. He was a guns and scout pilot in 69/70. Many medals and I believe a DFC. Everything has begun to shut down. Please, if you have a moment, a prayer would be very kind.

Thank you,
Mike

My Prayers go out to him ..brother!
My brother Frank did 3 tours..... 1st as Green Beret Just after the Tet offensive, last 2 as an Advisor. War ended as I drew a very low lottery number. He came back home to us but was never himself again ...Multiple ampute in the 1990's & he left us in that Decade.
Strange war Strange chemistry, who can prove it's the cause?

A very good friend, John Kirk, also has less than 2 weeks as he has lost his battle with leukemia caused by agent orange. Back in '65 we watched C123s fly over spraying us in D zone. John and I were scouts in Recon Section, 1/503 Infantry Regiment, 173rd Brigade Airborne. John was a good soldier, is a good husband and the best of friends.

Airborne, all the way John. You will be missed and never forgotten.

Prayer for you friend, his family and friends - the sad part is no memorial for those taken slowly from us.

Artful, I saw a memorial of a soldier walking into a wall. It is a memorial to all the soldiers that have died as a result of their service in SE Asia but are not included on the wall. Got a lot of friends on both.

Prayers that our Heavenly Father ease his suffering, God bless you and him.

Veteran myself and say a quiet little personal prayer every time I see a veteran. I was in 11 yrs ('86-'97/Army) and by the grace of God never put in harms way. I was VERY fortunate. Your friend is on my list.

Thank you all so very much. Spent some time today with him about 4 or 5 hours. We are trying to take care of some final things. Tomorrow we will talk with the detail clerk in the VA. He is taking it stoically. Not much fun but, necessary. Time is short days maybe a week or so. Only He knows. Will spend the day tomorrow with him and Saturday as well. I feel bad I cant do more. It is a six hour drive each way. My boss has been real good about my time away. Thanks again.

Some of our brothers were killed over there and some were killed there, but just didn't know it at the time. They thought they made it out alive, only to find out nearly 50 years later that they had died over there.

In this sad world of ours.
Sorrow comes to all.
It comes with bitterest agony.
Perfect relief is not possible.
Except with time.
You can not now realize that you will ever feel better.
Is not this so?
And yet it is a mistake.
You are sure to be happy again.
To know this, which is certainly true.
Will make you some less miserable now.
I have had experience enough to know what I say.

Just an update. We laid my friend to rest in the Southern Wisconsin Veteran's Cemetary. It was a simple respectful military service. Flag draped coffin, I received the flag as there was no family. A 3 volley salute. About 10 folks came. He would have been happy. He was given respect in the end that many should have received much sooner.

I thank each and every one that remembered him in their prayers. He is now in a better place I am sure flying once again as a scout, slick or guns. He enjoyed each very much and received a DFC for one mission. He was my friend and I will remembr the good times.

flyer1,
Your friend died a wealthy man, for he could count among his possessions a friend such as you. Some things in life are rare; a true and trusted friend is one of those things.

Thecelt, thank you. He was a good man and a true friend. We have very few of them.
