I just bought a Rem model 14 serial 128751 and was wondering if it has the original rear sight because there is a blank dovetail under the sight. If it is wrong what sight am i supposed to have

That narrow dovetail under the sight was put there for some reason, mostly likely to hold the front ring of some long discontinued scope mount.

The notch is factory. It's for a wheel sight. I don't know when they quit using the wheel sight but understand that they continued putting the notch after they quit using that sight. Here's where you can prob'ly find out all you need to know.

Savage also used a sight with an elevation wheel like that. It was called a Dockendorff sight.
