Need Info Please, Building A Non Contact Temperature Sensor

I have this idea to make a non contact temperature sensor with a digital display, like using a laser thermometer but without holding it or needing to press the trigger. When my molds get hot I set them on a stand and use another one but I'd like to be able to monitor the temp while it sits so if I have a laser pointing in a certain spot I can put the mold there and watch the temp on a digital display mounted on my casting table. Wireless would be great but not a deal killer if not, I'd like it to be a 12 volt version as well. Any suggestions on where to get instructions on how to do this? Thanks

I'll bet that has a price tag that'll make you faint. Couldn't find one though.

A couple of points. One, surface matters greatly, lead reflects too much to work, if you have brass and aluminum and steel molds, each will reflect and read temp differently. Two, they have a wide error range, three, very expensive if you want a good fairly accurate measure. Stick with a contact probe.

Or get a few of the different versions of this one -- they all seem to be $10 or less -- and see if any lend themselves to being taken apart and adapted. 8-)
