Gave a friend some cast bullets for his 30-30 Marlin.
Need a load for a 110 grain bullet with 3031, 4064 or 748 powder if possible
I cant find my Lyman Cast Bullet manual at the moment.

Thanks
Brian

Semtav,

I don't see any of your powders listed in Lyman's 3rd Cast manual. (1997). The Lyman #44 Manual (1967) starts with a 155 grain boolit. IMHO, you'll need to find a faster powder, use a heavier boolit or start experimenting. There is a recent post of a 110-115 grain boolit powered by 2400. Other than that I'm not much help.

Sorry,

I believe that is a jacketed bullet.

If you are shooting a cast, gaschecked bullet, a safe rule is 75% of the starting jacketed bullet charge, using an extruded rifle powder like 3031, 4895, 4064, RL15 or Varget.

DO NOT use spheroidal rifle powders in reduced loads, unless you have tested data from the powder manufacturer!

If your cast bullet is a plainbase, you need a lighter charge of faster powder, about 5 grains of Bullseye or TiteGroup, 6 grains of Trail Boss or 231, 7 grains of Unique or 10 grains of #2400.

Gas Checked
Its the 311316

I see a bullet close to that in the Lyman 47th edition handbook that lists a starting load of 26 gr for the 3031 and 24.5 gr for the 748 in a Thompson Contender.

I shoot 20 gr of 3031 in the 219 Zipper and 25-35 so that should get me close.

In my experience the start loads in Lyman are max. in terms of accuracy. They only shoot for pressure, not group.!!!!!
