A new gun (ok, still waiting for them to hit the shelves) calls for a new mold! I knew right away I wouldn't be happy with either the Lee or RCBS offerings, and even the NOE and group buy stuff always seem have a dimension or two that bug me. I've never bought from Mountain Molds because I'm usually looking for more than a 2-banger. But 2 cavities should be plenty to feed a 480 so I figured I'd give MM a try. I've heard good things about Dan and now I will experience his product myself!

This is loosely based on the Cast Performance 375 gr design but I optimized it for the shorter 480 case by lengthening the nose past what would normally fit in a 475 Linebaugh with its 1.400" case. I added a 0.006" shoulder to the nose to prevent any interference issues like I've experienced on a few non-shouldered designs. Anyway, here's the MM program dimensions I picked

My 480R Mountain Mold was designed to cast a 375 grain bullet with 70% Meplat. One Big Grease Groove and a Hornady Gas Check. My last casting session I was using both a Lee 310 grain 44 Mag 6 Cavity, and the 2 Banger Mountain Mold. The Mountain Mold was throwing keepers from the start. The bullets just fall out when I open the mold. My production was almost as high as the Lee 6 Cavity. With the Lee I had to rap the mold several times to get all 6 bullets out, plus not everything was a keeper.
I have a 310 grain 44 Mag mold on order from Mountain Mold. Same design as the 480R Bullet.
I am very impressed after my first mold. I will probably get a third mold for my 45 Colt after that.
You will be impressed with the Mountain Mold.

I have an MM 2 cavity 44 Mag mold that I am very happy with (well, I designed it) and I actually prefer it to any 4 cavity I have.
