My RCBS Pro-Melt after reaching temp will only let me cast about 10-15 bullets and then the temp goes from 800 to 725, I keep the pot 3/4 filled, I am doing something wrong or do it have to go back for repair
Thanks

With no disrespect, I'd need a bit more information to hopefully reply with some (again, hopefully) good advice. I have a RCBS Pro-melt, and when plugged directly into wall socket -- e.g., no PID -- mine seems to have about a 20* maximum swing. "10-15 bullets" is a very negligible amount; assuming they're 200-grainers, that's roughly but 1/35th of a pound. I use an Auber PID, and have a complementing digital thermometer -- the two seem to always be within one degree of each other. Using the Auber PID, and the control of RCBS at max, my temperature seems to stay within 7 or 8 degrees -- unless I add new ingots ordump my sprue-box into pot, where it will drop.

IF your house A.C. is OK and stable, and you have your pot 3/4s full of allow -- without temperature drops as described from adding to it -- I'd suggest you ring RCBS Customer Service. It is their customer service which has had me buying RCBS products -- hence, I'll be surprised if you do not get some concrete answers from them. The only hitch I've had -- but once or twice -- is long wait time -- but, worth every minute! FYI, their 'phone number is (800) 379-1732; the URL of their customer service is: http://www.rcbs.com/general/warranty/

Good luck!

Mine over shoots the temp on initial heatup than it stabilizes and holds temp. very well.

What's the alloy temp your looking for? When thermostats are run near their limit they loose a bit of their sensitivity.

You should not need to be running your alloy at a real temp of 800F. I said real temp because you are reading the pot thermostat setting, not the actual alloy temp. Most of us run between 700 and 750 for lead alloy. Maybe less for some alloys.

I'm 20 to 1 using it for a Schuetzen Rifle casting weight is 225.0 to 226.9 grs. I was told to run the temp about 775 to 800

looking at post 6 that seems to be a good thing to try.

Mr Grunt, the best place to set your casting temp is 100degF above liquidus temp. Pure lead is completely liquid at 629degF. Adding 5% tin can only drop that temp. 775-800 seems excessive. I'd try in the vicinity of 700 and see if your as cast weight improves with complete fillout.

Thank you for the help. I'll let you if it works
Thanks again

I have a thermometer in my RCBS pot and my cast are between 650 and 700 and the always drop great and keep consistent thru out the whole session.
